Question: Would you enjoy having a karma system here?
Yes, it would be great!
No, I hate karma, its like gravity ferries.
I don't care either way.
Why are you here? Leave me alone!

Well what do you think guys?

I think it would be fun even if it isn't something people really rely on to tell who is good. I just think it would be a nice way of rewarding people for answering questions etc. I.e. each person gets a certain amount of karma to start with and you can pass it around to whoever you think is deserving of it or whatever. You may suggest how you think it should work here. Cool yes

this was discussed and rejected by the staff at the time we switched software to the current system.  i personally dont see the need for it.  just more clap trap on a persona screen to deal with.

I don't know if it is a need so much as a want. It is fun to have, not necessary like a password, but fun.

idea I really didn't think it took up that much room, like instead of the bars under a persons name right now based on post count those bars could be based on karma? (again not sure what this system can do)

A Karma system is an online version of a schoolyard popularity contest. On a site like eBay or GunBroker where it could give you an indication of successfully completed sales or transactions or something similar, here it would simply be a game of popularity.

We considered implementing such a thing and rejected it as un-useful and un-needed for the type of site we are trying to run. The site should be about the information, not who's most popular.

You can try to do an end run around the staff decision, but it's not going to work. I don't appreciate this thread when it was already covered in another thread as to the reason why we decided against instituting the Karma system. The answer from the staff will not change....

NO.

Does that cover it well enough now?
