I want to get an 1851 in .36 cal too, but I just cant bring myself to pay $200 for a .36 after I paid $130 for a .44 in the same style.
There is one selling on GB with no reserve, but this guy is trying to make a few extra bucks on shipping. http://gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=145061020

Given that I own four BP revolvers already to keep be busy shooting, I am going to wait until Cabella's puts a .36 on sale. I want a new one, I just don't want to pay a lot for it I have also been eying a blackpowder double barrel shot gun. That cost $800. I'm gona have to be patient on that one and see what deals they put out in the future.

Sounds right! I am a "good things come to those who wait" kind of guy myself!

Awesome! That is the Howdah. I was considering if I should buy that one or the Walker and went with the walker. Cabela's wanted $600 for it. I decided to pass for now and wait for a sale. It is on my list of things to get. I am looking over the link you posted to figure out the quality of the one for $350. I will try to find some reviews on it. Here is the from Cabelas from Davide Pedersoli: http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/pod/standard-pod-wrapped.jsp?id=0058399&navCount=1&parentId=cat20817&masterpathid=&navAction=push&cmCat=MainCatcat602007-cat20817&parentType=index&indexId=cat20817&rid=The cool thing about black powder shotguns is that you not only set your own charge, but you shoot almost anything out of the barrel too that fits in there.

I saw the Howdah on Cabellas before I posted the one from the Middlesex Village Trading Co, and due to minor differences in the pistol and major differences in the price I concluded that they must not be exactly the same weapon. In fact the MVTC site does not even call it a Howdah nor does it say who builds it. I did find one on GunBroker that was imported by MVTC, that has a little more info. It says it was imported from India. http://gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=146279105I was a little disappointed to find out that it is not legal to take a deer with one, in my home state because Indiana law says the barrel must be at least 12" long, and this one is only 11 1/4".

Middlesex does have a full size shotgun version in development. I might buy it... or both if they they offer a good discount. http://www.middlesexvillagetrading.com/MDBC.SHTML

Middlesex is probably just being stylish. The Howdah from Cabela's does not have the ring. Both guns are essentially the same functionally. Short double barrel shotgun. This weapon was very popular with the British as they explored India ridding in carriages on the back of elephants. These carriages where called "Howdah". They kept short double barrel shotguns handy to use a against tigers that might try to climb up into the Howdah. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HowdahThe ring is a personal choice made by the gun maker. It does not have to have one and I have seen police issue revolvers and cavalry pistols that have it. A rope goes through the ring and connects around to shoulder. It very useful for mounted troops who will often drop there pistol as the animal they ride jolts unexpectedly for various reasons. The one at Cabella's seems like it might have a more fine craftsmanship and finishing touches. I know that the ramrod is connected by a chain like link so you can not loose it. The ramrod from Middlesex looks like it comes completely free. Middlesex is probably a much better value for you money. It would be nice to find reviews from people who already own it. The reviews of the Cabella's one are good from people who bought it. Edit: I found one review fro Middlesex here but for a different gun. The reviewer seems pleased: http://www.myarmoury.com/review_mvt_doglock.html

Yep, 60-70 grains is a typical charge for a rifle. The Walker is a pistol designed to take rifle loads.
The thing that fascinates me the most with these civil war revolvers is that they were not intended to be personal defense weapons. They were intended to be assault weapons.
