Nothing wrong with having an AK at all I have few myself and even a WASR can shoot good groups at times. But thats not its purpose never was and thank god for it. I picked up a Savage 10FCM in 308 this week and shooting sub-MOA is exactly what it is supposed to do. BTW that accu-trigger is just the best Ive ever used on a production weapon. Think Im going to give the Mosin and 54R ammo to my son for Xmas. Damn I spoil those kids.

You guys want to know what the best SHTF rifle is?

10\22   cry2

1. Ammo is heavy..you can carry many rounds of 22lr along
if you have to travel on foot.

2. Great for picking off small rabbits and other game for food.

3. Not much noise compared to other rifles. Noise gives away
your position..bad

Ok i am going back to watching Red Dawn now  angel

Watch out with small game, lots of protien little fat, it can kill you to survive off it.  I will agree, a good .22 is a must have.

My lineup is a Remington 870 12 gauge, 2 Glock 19's, Kahr PM9 and quite possibly real soon, a new Mini 14 tactical with the thicker shorter barrel.  Should be accurate enough, I live in the suburbs and don't forsee longer range shooting beyond 75 yards actually.

Perhaps an AK, but too heavy for me when loaded with 30 rounds.  I want something light and very maneuverable.  I might opt for a Marlin 1894 in .44magnum though.

What about a Ruger M77 Hawkeye scout? tough dependable and they can be modified to take an M1A mag.

i've given this some thought and have started to work towards it.i currently have a c9 and a rossi 20ga/22 lr combo,i would also like to get a 308/20ga combo and top it off with a couple of 995's.while that may not be  acceptable to some it would meet all of my requirements for survival if SHTF,also both combos break down and are stored in a very back packable storage system
