Thanks for all the info. I know the mum is intact, it had the bipod, cleaning rod, and the sight with the fold out pieces. Im not really looking to start a collection of rifles of this type but maybe a second look is called for. I think they had a tag on it for 200

if it as complete as you say, then I would jump on it at that price.

While i  do not have not much knowledge of the jap action if you want to shoot it  I suggest you take it to a good gunsmith to find out if it ia late war,   then go from there  .  The Germans  had some late was 989  but as long as you stayed in the limits of the 8 Mauser you were fine

Even more important than late war is the fact that the Japanese made special trainer rifles. They were meant to shoot a special low pressure round. I have a few of them. Seems that one of the local dealers here gets them real often.

they are usually single shot and are marked quite differently though.  pretty easy to tell the difference and they are certainly not safe to shoot.  There are rifles that were retired from military service by the Japs though, they were put to use in schools as training rifles, usually just worn out but still shootable.  I had a T38 that had been retired, sent to a school then forced back into army service near the end of the war.

My understanding is that the training rifles used a wooden bullet. Is that correct? Also, I've read that some of the last ditch Japanese guns were meant to shoot blackpowder. Did the training rifles also use BP?
