After a month after initial purchase (needed a manufacturer fired shell, sent to a local FFL, waiting 7 more days, etc) I got my C9 and tried it out today.
When I got to the range I noticed the president of the gun club was there with a state police officer. He noticed my C9 and warned me about some "friend of a friend" who blew their finger off with a hi-point. At first I was surprised that an experienced marksman would use hearsay to scare another, then I grinned and offered to let him fire some rounds assuring him I'd drive him to the hospital.
At first I tried the ghost ring, not for me (got to blame something) but the 8 round mag sent the rounds out of the C9 reliability. Switched to the open sights and tried the factory 10 round mag. Complete switch, now hitting the target but 2nd round nose down, 5th round nose up, and 8th round nose up. I figured maybe the Winchester white box ammo was responsible for the poor feeding. When back to the 8 round mag, now 100% accurate & reliable. Tried the 10 round mag again with an early nose down failure to feed, then 1 or 2 nose up failures to feed. After trying both mags a few more times I felt rather then be the target of uneducated ridicule I'd call it a day, I was satisfied I could count on the c9 with the 8 round mag.
C9: Thumbs up! (breaking it in will be fun)
10 round mag: TBD (need to try other ammo)
BTW, have all my fingers but couldn't get the president to experience the C9.

I'm sure the clip* issues can be worked out, but what do you mean you needed a manufacturer fired shell??

I think you just need to tweek the mag lips on the 10 rd mag and it will be just fine.Had problems with mine a little tweek and it works just great now.  |

(The people's republic of) Maryland's dumbest law could be the ballistic fingerprinting system that requires A (not THE) firearms manufacture to fire a round out of a new guns, certify the spent shell casing and send it in for the state database. Some manufactures include the spend shell with all their pistols, but not Hi-point. To get a new Hi-point in Maryland you must purchase one, have it sent to A (not THE) firearms manufacture, then have it sent to the local FFL. It does not apply to used guns, so a used Hi-point is worth more than a new one requiring a casing.
There are other insane MD laws like an internal/intergraded safety device. I like the Hi-point free lock but had to purchase an omega that goes inside the barrel (internal). It’s funny how a $150 pistol can cost and additional $125 in fees, shipping and an internal lock.
As far as the 10 round mag tweeking. Any thoughts on where to pinch the lips, given the nose down, then repeated nose up issue?

Congrats on the new C9.
Ouch on the fired shell casing. Sounds like a real hassle and kind of pricey to have it done. You would think the state would help pick up the cost. Plus require any gun shop to have it done prior to sale if the manufacturer didn't do it.
As far as the 8 round mags they worked great for me also. I don't have the C9 ten round mags. But, I do have some old 995 mags that I set up to work in the C9. They required a little tweeking.

 gosh, i took my C-9 out & blew through 50 at lunch & was bothered by the smallish capacity of the 8rd mag... silly me, didn't even know they made a 10rd. How does one go about acquiring one (fyi, just sent a check to Ohio asking for two additional mags, will they assume i mean 8rds?) what does a 10rd look like when loaded in the grip?

A battery powered drill. Most people tend to like the 8rders and I'm with them on it. |

rammurph might be on to something. Original 8rd mag, does about 49/50, 1 double feed. Rear lips spaced 0.335 apart, front 0.340 apart. 10rd mag from http://www.hi-pointfirearms.net/products.php?cat=12 only $18 shipped. Rear lips spaced 0.350 apart, front 0.390 apart! Made the a little adjustment and have tomorrow off work, fingers crossed. |

The 10rnd mag is the magazine for the 995. They're interchangeable, but you can't use C9 mags in a 995 because they're too short.
 Interchangeable means you can swap them back and forth between the C9 and the 995. If you can't use C9 mags in a 995, then their not interchangeable.  |
