I've had a HP 380 for over 10 years but never had done anything with it but fire it a couple of times when new. I got a bug in my butt the other night while talking with a cousin that was visiting from SoCal and talking gun talk and home protection. The light came on and it got brighter and brighter to the point where I pulled the little .380 out and for some reason need more HP's.
I went down to the local feed/gun store, we're very rural here, and asked about him being a transfer dealer. He has never done it before and said he could get them for about the same price as on-line dealers, ya right!!!! On display on top of the counter was the HP carbine, now I don't know a thing about them but the price was $480.00. I kinda shrugged my shoulders and said I'd come back in if I really thought about more HP products.
Checked his price at just a couple of on-line guy's and holy crap, his must be made of gold or looking for a sucker. I now know I won't be going back in there for HP pistols even though I didn't ask him for prices.
Anyway, Thanks for the forum and all you guys post's on here for us newbi's. I think this forum has already saved me time and money.
                                                  Thanks again, boatdoc
He also let me know his opinion of the HP products. Thye're junk and won't last 500 rounds, now where have I read that before!!!

the price was $480.00...They're junk and won't last 500 rounds, now where have I read that before!!!
I guess with a price of $480 for a "junk gun", it's much easier to sell the pricier guns. customer: "hey what's this cheaper gun?" seller: "you don't want that, it's a piece of junk and won't last over 500 rounds" customer: "oh well i guess this $700 gun is worth the price then!".  if it had been $250, the customer probably would have said "for a third of the price, i'll take my chances!" I'm becoming convinced that most stores only stock HP's in order to sell people on more expensive "quality" guns.

The price of Hi-Points seem to be very dependent on where you live, and the availability in that area. If you live near the Mother Ship (Ohio), they seem to be plentiful and near MSRP.

I live in southeastern PA (Sodom on the Delaware), and it took me 4 to 5 visits to local gun shops (LGS) to get my 995TS. I then found Cabela's up in Hamburg, PA where prices were low, but the firearm was sold out.

So it helps if you post the area where you eyeballed prices and availability. Or put your location info in your profile.

You were right, $480 was a rip-off.
