Been thinking about a kit that would go in a window.  It would utilize fireproof sheet material on the floor and walls, a barrel stove kit and galvanized stovepipe.  The stove would vent out the window through the fireproof material and up with the stovepipe.  Remember, it has to go above the peak of the roof to draft properly.  I priced the materials and it would run about $250 or so. 

It would be for emergencies only, as it won't make code anywhere in modern society that I am aware of.  We heated with wood my entire life growing up (mostly pine and aspen, actually) and it can be done, quite safely.
