Alaska, Land of the frozen chosen!

Well, the wife and I have successfully chucked the dueces to New Mexico, and are currently at the USAF Academy in Colorado Springs, CO. I have to say that it's been a really good trip so far, and any nervousness is pretty much gone now. We had clear, dry roads the entire way so far, and I couldn't be happier. The wife drove like a champ; I swear she drives better than Jason Statham in The Transporter! Tongue

I tell you guys, I have never seen more pronghorn antelope in my LIFE! They litter the landscape up here like cows in the Midwest! I saw a couple of bucks that were 30 inches if they were an inch, no joke. I also saw a coyote about 50 feet from the road, and I could have gotten out and shot him, but alas, I have powder, primers, bullets and brass, but I don't have a damn gun!!!! cantlook

Anywho, I get all the way here to the USAFA, no problems, no near misses with wildlife, all smooth sailing. I get checked into the hotel, and start driving to the room, come around this corner and almost hit 2 deer!!!! WTF? LOL! I did get a pic, and I'll post that once I get the SD card reader hooked up.

I have to say, Colorado is a beautiful state. If I wasn't going to Alaska, I'd want to come here.

Cool, good to hear it is going well for you, I lived in the Springs for a couple years. I don't remember much of it as I was only 7 when we moved there and about 9 when we moved further south to Florence, CO.

It really is....well the closer to the mountains you get lol....the south eastern portion is flat and boring.

My cousin is in the springs. Stayed a couple weeks with him up there and besides the lack of me being able to breath in the thin air I really liked it!

Almost moved up there.

At any rate be careful man!

Here are a couple of the pics we took, you don't get to see the others... devilsidesmile

This next pic is when my wife tried to throw a snowball at me, LOL!

The next pic is a damn fine view from the State of Colorado sign. I only took the pic just to have something to show you guys.

The last pic is of the deer I almost hit. Damn doe and her fawn. It wouldn't have been funny if I'd hit her, I'd be stranded here if that'd happened.

Here is a pic of the HUGE 4x4 mule deer that was persuing a doe while I took video and pics. This joker is MASSIVE! You can see him better in the video, but I have to get it loaded on Photobucket before I can share it.

The doe pissing in the scrape not 10 feet off the main road by the BX, right here on the Air Force Academy.

The gratitous sniff pic.

So are you taking I-70 into utah? or I-80? 70 is the much prettier drive but it can get kinda hairy in bad weather so be careful if you go that way But I guarantee the scenery, while not Alaska is very nice.

I am going to take I-25 up to Cheyenne, Wyoming and then I-80 the rest of the way to SLC, as to go I-70 would add over 100 miles and 2 hours to the trip. What I am pushing for here is fast, convienient and safe. I'd like to have the time to go that direction, but I can't. Also, if bad weather sets in, I don't want to get stranded out in BFE either.

According to www.weather.com tomorrow is supposed to be clear and sunny, with a high of 60 degrees in Salt Lake City, and on Monday in Spokane, Washington it's gonna be partly cloudy with a high of 47. I think I've got good weather all the way to Spokane, where I'll be staying for 2 nights visiting friends. Then it's off to Tacoma on Thursday to drop off the wife's car and then hit the Ferry on Friday afternoon.

Things are going well, and according to plan. Thank God for that.

Dude, the guy in my Avatar is the actor Barry Pepper as he portrayed Private Jackson, the sniper in Saving Private Ryan. The avatar is a clip from that movie.
