the older units were alot better than newer cheapie-chinese ones.  they are made way more cheaply.  they are similar to heater blankets in that respect, if you buy a high dollar good one it will alst for years.  cheap out on it and it may burn your house down.

SW

Yeah, speaking of burning the house down. I was looking at a recall board for my truck and ended up learning that the cruise control units had a tendency of shorting out and lighting the car ablaze. I think it was like 50 some odd trucks that went up in flames, most of em taking the house with em.

I'm glad I don't have a cruise control.

...Sorry for the off topic mini-hijack.

Do you have a Ranger? lol I had to have my cruise control worked on 3 times because of recalls dealing with the potential for the truck to spontaneously combust.

Well more vehicle news....

I recieved my wife's 2008 Chevy Cobalt from the Vehicle Processing Center here in Anchorage today, and took it straight to the shop to get the block heater installed, mount and balance 4 brand new studded tires and to get the antifreeze checked to make sure it was within specifications for Alaska. 3 hours later we walked out with a bill for over $700.00. $500.00 was for the tires and $200.00 just for the block heater and a full hour of labor to install the heater and mount the tires. Damn new cars!!! That block heater, of course it's a factory only part, so instead of $75.00 for the part, it's $190.00 and some change just to buy the damn thing then the installation cost. It bolted on pretty as you please, had all the clips that route the cord etc so it looks as if it came from the factory. But of course, I could have done this myself, but without tools or a place to work I had to fork out the money. I can't really work in a snow bank ya know?

That's almost $1500.00 I've spent on vehicles in the last 3 days. I am glad both vehicles have been updated, I need to slow down spending money. I am getting broke fast.

no, it was my roommate.  i ran him over nuts to shoulder with a grand cherokee.   everything turned out ok though, once the shock wore off.  lesson learned though, snowboard skitching from the side of a vehicle is a bad idea.  a very bad idea

....at least everything was ok. Remind me not to make you angry. I might wake up to find myself sleeping under a car tire...

I hear ya Primal: When I was in Flagstaff I cracked a brake rotor (didn't know you could do that on a Suzuki truck blink.  I thought they were thick, then I met 6ft snow drifts and didn't know that you're not supposed to romp over them after riding downhill for 50 miles...).  Working on THAT in the snow SUCKED Cry Swore I would never do that again...

.... then there was the douchebag who tried to steal my motorcycle by ripping my ex-g/f's car out of the driveway (old timers might remember my rant on that).

I don't blame ya for paying someone else.  Not worth the headache...or frostbite.

Well, we went out today looking at houses for the second day and we really didn't see anything we were that interested in.

However, the realtor for the house we made an offer on called my realtor today and asked us if we were still willing to deal. LMAO!!! I knew they were going to call us back, by pulling our offer off the table we were able to determine if they were serious and were willing to deal.

Apparently, the owners sent my realtor an e-mail asking to see if we were still interested and some other such nonsense. My realtor is going to forward that to me and if it's a decent offer, or an acceptance of our previous offer, we might just get the house we wanted after all.

Wish me luck boys. This house buying crap is a whole lot more stressful than I ever imagined.
