I saw 2 Russian M38s for 180 a piece and a Springfield Armory M1 Garand for 800 bucks and it was actually in decent shape. One of the M38s was a numbers matching rifle stamped 1943 that looked great, it had a fairly light colored stock the other one looked pretty decent but was darker. Here are a few pics of the M1 Garand that I took with my cell phone,

That M1 does appear to have some serious metal issues

I've not heard anything good about the Big5 Garands. Much better rifles from CMP, especially for the price.

Yeah but I really don't want to spend that kinda money and never hold the rifle til I get it ya know? The only one I would even think about getting would cost 200 dollars more. The "Special Grade M1 Garand"

CMP Garands are the best you can get for the $$. CMP cleans, inspects, headspace checks, repairs (if needed), and test fires each and every one. The Big 5 Garands are shot out, pitted, dirty, and a mere shadow of their former glorious selves. I checked an M1 at my local B5 and it was so shot out, it was almost a smoothbore. $800 bucks my eye!!!!

The ones at CMP look immaculate as long as you get one above Field grade, the money gets tight after that grade though... I'd really like to get a "Special Grade" rifle...

Those are some of the new imports. They look like crap, and cost too much. I can't believe the vendors think they are going to move these for 700-800 dollars. They are spare parts guns at best... I saw a couple, and talked to some others that saw them in other places; not 1 has had a serviceable barrel.
You will be well over 1000 to make these things shootable.
