Hello, I am not a gun owner, never have been...but that is going to change as soon as my FOID is in my hand. I have been doing allot of on-line research on handguns and have been to a couple local gun dealers. I stumbled onto the hi point brand through Buds Gun Shop online. From the accounts I have read in other forums this gun is garbage (this was said from handgun owners who do not have a hi-point). I would have to say that at least 95% or better of those who do own a hi-point have a favorable opinion. I am not going to be doing competitive range shooting, I will only be doing target shooting to develop my shooting ability, and the handgun will be used only when I need to defend. At the prices I've seen, this brand would allow me to have a couple pistols located in my home. I am not a paranoid person, but the way things have gone with the economy and the far left, I am concerned. I also plan on a having a 12 ga. and one of hi-points rifles. It is my hope and desire that these firearms will never have to be fired to protect. But if it comes to that I will be prepared. On the rifle ammo, (excuse my ignorance) what does carbine mean? What ammo would I need if I ordered the Hi-Point 10 + 1 40 S&W Semi-Automatic Carbine (I plan on getting the Hi-Point 34010 40SW) Would I need different ammo from handgun to rifle? Thanks for the welcome and the help. Lars Rockton, Ill

as for the .40 ammo, same stuff feeds into the carbine as into the pistol. having both is a fine move imo. i do some competitive shooting with my Hi-Point .45 and the pistol performs as well as higher dollar guns, even though the shooter (me) doesn't.

Having both a pistol & carbine in the same caliber is smart! and Personally I like the 40 cal. best. Just waiting for the 40 carbine to come out with the new stock. Have fun & be safe!

Hello again, I called the Illinois State Police to check on the status of my FOID and I was told that it was authorized on Wednesday and I should be getting it any day now. I went to the hipoint website to find a dealer close to home and found one, but I thought I would check out another dealer, Bullet Stop in Loves Park, IL as they also have an indoor range, and if you buy your firearm from them you can use the range for free. One thing they had on their website was no junk hand guns may use they range. My thought was, are they saying the hipoint was junk? So I went in to look at their showroom and low and behold they sell hipoints. I made it a point to ask about the "junk" and the hipoint was not considered junk. They have sold over 400 of hipoints and only shipped one back to hipoint and I was told it was user error not firearm error. For $175.00 I will be able to get a handgun and the ability to shoot at the range. They also offer a training for $60.00 using their handguns, different calibers to find one that I may like one over another. My plan is to use the one I purchase. During this training my wife is also included in the price. Bullet Stop web page is http://bulletstopguns.com/2 stores one in Loves Park and the other in Hartford, MO. I let you all know what I get and how it goes at the range. Lars
