I have looked at Rock Island, FNH, and Para. The best local price is the Rock Island GI at 458.00. Even on Gun broker once shipping and FFL are considered that is a good price.

I've heard good things about the rock island 1911. I would also like at the firestorm 1911. Those are the two I am going to check out.

I just bought a used rock island on sat. and all i can say  is holy poop!!!!!!! I love this gun! I paid 369.00 for a used one locally around here they go for 400.00 to 479 new. you may want to check out the gun shows when they come to town ive read thats the best place to find a good price or i think you can reserve one on center fire systems for when theyre back in stock. this is my new favorite gun! I love it so much im going to buy the compact if i can find it @ the next show

I've seen the Taurus 1911s going for fair prices (around $400 new) around here.  I've heard good things about em.  I used to have a Springfield 1911 A1 GI that I gave $400 for.  I put a new mag well, hogue grip, extended slide release, and recoil buffer on it so it pushed the money I had in it up to around $500, but I sold it 2 weeks ago for $500 even after having it for almost 4 years and putting a good bit of wear on it.  It's nice how 1911s generally hold their value Smiley

Taurus and RIA are the way to go. Hands down. Cheap and reliable.

I'm always iffy about Taurus, but I will tell you I know from experience that Rock Island 1911s are worth the money.

I own a Taurus and thats what I carry. I trust my life with it. Their 1911s are supposed to be really really good. IMO you got a better deal though by going with the RIA.

Taurus as a company though, is sorta hit or miss.

Well, they've gotten a few models of firearms down pretty well. The 1911s are one of them for sure. I've shot my uncle's and hes never had a malfunction and one of my friends has one and he never has either.

Honestly I don't think they had any the pickings were slim at the now closed Sportsman's Warehouse... they were sold out of just about every pistol that was the last (I believe) .44 Mag Taurus they had they had like 7 pistols on the wall, it was a sad sight after an election...

COOL guys!

I logged in for the express purpose of looking into RIA's 1911.

Just left the GS & was looking at XDm-40 vs XD-45... he was patient answering my questions & then pulled his carry piece, dropped the mag & jacked the round. An original GI 1911. He's a friend & a helluva shooter, so I listened while he laid-out some of the reasons for a 1911 over the XD's... all that capacity & stuff was a nice idea, but when I heard they were double action i was steered quick... he spoke highly of RIA & sent me home to check into it b4 i buy.

Specifically, he said the FSP model, around $450.

Any input?
