I have had a RIA for about a year now. The only thing I changed out is the grips. The original wood grips were pretty slick so I went with a set of wrap-a-round rubber grips. Great piece/great price.
Here are the first 7 rounds ever fired from the handgun. Not to bad right out of the box.

Isn't the XD striker fired? I've never seen a SA striker fired pistol before, but if it is, hey I learned something new

wow Viper, you have some keen pricing there, is that retail or wholesale? i thought the XD's were single action
Tough question in the technicals, what I can find says it is definately NOT a single-action, AND it's definately NOT a double-action... which brings us to... Isn't the XD striker fired? I've never seen a SA striker fired pistol before, but if it is, hey I learned something new this seems to be where the questions come in regarding how to define single/double-action as it relates to such guns... it's over my head though... My GS friend calls it a double in contrast to the trigger-pull on his 1911. My IDPA firiends likewise, they shoot primarily XD's but own 1911's and each insist the trigger is a totally diff animal on the 1911 & would shoot it all the time except for the capacity issue... lacking a good definition I have chosen to side with the concept that trigger pull on the 1911 keeps these veteran shooters on target, and I don't care much about the limited capacity since this is a defensive weapon for my home, and competition is secondary.

I own a rock island GI and I am well pleased. It has no bells or whistles but is compatable, as the name implies with all GI 1911 parts. The sights arent too hot and the frame is cast rather than forged but who cares. I am infatuated with 1911s. They hold good and shoot good. They look good and when used by experienced operators can bring a distinct advantage to the user. Being single action only their first round will fire with wonderful trigger pull. The caveat being that to quickly take advantage of this you must carry it cocked and locked. Im not gonna recommend it cuz in fumbly hands thats a bit dangerous. OH I could go on for hours about these guns. I find that from a one knee neel I can easily hit a 5 gallon bucket at one hundred yards in rapid succession. Easy. Better aim high though. Lotta drop in a round that doesnt even muster 900 fps. I can do so well with no other pistol and neither can any of my shooting buddies. The Taurus probably represents the most gun for your money deal. The XDs are too far removed from my concept of a 1911 for me( just me) and the higher end guns simply dont return enough to justify their cost. If my job required me to carry a gun I'd be more inclined for the higher end guns. But for their reliability not the gizmos and neat tricks.

Well I found out why my Hi Standard won't lock some of the surplus mags in. Just a tiny little burr in the mag. catch . You couldn't;t really see in but you could feel it. 2 strokes with a needle file and I'm working fine now.

Take a look at Citadel 1911s, they are make by the same company the made Charles Daily and make Rock Island pistols.
