Found a good deal for a Savage 111 in .300 winmag.
I was just wondering how does the 150 and 180 gr. ammo
compares to 12Ga. 1oz. Rifled slugs (1600 fps) in terms of recoil.

close.  the winmag is a shorter sharper recoil, while the 12 ga is a hard hammer hitting you in the shoulder.

Thanks for the info.
The guys at the LGS made it sound like it would dislocate my shoulder just by shooting a few rounds.
The indoor range I go to only allows buckshot or slugs.
Slugs are fairly cheap (5 for $3), so that's what I shoot a lot of.
I figured If I can shoot 10-15 slugs a day without hurting too bad I should be able to handle the magnums.
I guess I'll go pick it up tomorrow. yay!

I've got remington 710 in .300 mag, 2 12 gauge SGs (saiga and a tactical) and of those three the .300 mag has the worst kick. It's far from dislocating your shoulder, but it will give you a beating that'll take a few days to get over  Azn
I'd highly recommend getting some type of recoil buffer pad when you buy the rifle.

First thing I noticed when I picked up is the really soft butt pad installed.
Savage refer to this as a P.A.D. (personal anti-recoil device).
It's suppose to lower recoil by 45%. I guess I'll find out when I take it to the range.
I'll post pics on a separate thread as soon as I find my camera.

This afternoon I shot six shells of Black Hills 190gr. Ammo to sight it in.
They had a pretty good kick to them but not to bad, probably just a tad more compared to 1 oz. slugs.
The butt pad worked! Usually my shoulder has a bruise on it just by shooting five slugs but not today Cool.

Buffers make a world of difference.. I remember the first time I shot mine, and it left a pretty good bruise after several shots.. got a "decelerator" and it really helped. Good luck w/it.
