I was bored today and tried a little experiment.....  I save all my brass and even some steel cases.  I used a fired steel wolf case, popped out the primer and put in a new primer, and put in a .22 pellet in.   So its a 223 with only a primer, no powder.  Im getting about 600fps.  not to bad for only a primer.... i know that its not that practital ..   i do have agulias 22lr rounds that dont have powder, that i shoot out of a savage 22 bolt action

IMO, it's a good way to help make a certain rifle part of one's self. And not wear the gun out.

I'm confused...  Make the rifle a part of oneself?

To practice with it until you reach 100% proficiency.

Ah, so practice rounds...  This sounds like it could be a great idea!  Any risk of getting the bullet lodged in the barrel?

nahh Even if there was a lodged bullet pelts are so soft that you could easily push it out, if you didn't notice and fired a second one it would likely clear the first lodged round, also pressure is insanely low with just primers so there would be no real issues to worry about.......just my 2 cents.

IMO, when hunting or practicing one shouldn't shot a 2nd round if they have no idea where the 1st one went.

FWIW, once I borrowed some one a 22 rev because they wanted to target practice. Came back with the barrel full of bullets. If I'd have known that they just want to hear noise, I'd have given them some firecrackers.

I agree with ya for the most part however i am personally a really cheap guy so i tend to only change targets when there is no paper left..lol....so after 30-60 rounds your paper gets kinda full of holes so it is not always possible to see where every round goes...maybe i am just trigger happy..lol...

Honestly, the best target is a 9 inch paper plate. You can get several hundred of them for just a few bucks. Take a sharpie marker and draw a bullseye on it and you're set.

I don't mean that one sees the hole in the paper, but have some idea of were it went. I too normally shot 50+ rounds at each target. With the .357 carbine @ 100 yards about 100 rounds. Kind of end up with a big hole in the center. At the local range anyway. Back home we have steel targets so we can just hear it.

I'm kind of trigger happy too & if I walked out to the target all the time, I wouldn't have time to shoot or reload.

That they are. I don't remember ever buying regular targets.

The only thing cheaper is when a local store sends a 'good' flyer. Sometimes they have a bullseye in the middle. Flyers are the only thing I use over my bullet trap in the basement.
