Yeah, I have no way to get a grenade launcher or mortar.

I'm looking to build an AR, though the Kel Tec SU-16a compact, at least thats what the gunbroker auction called it, looked pretty good.  Though when folded, it couldnt shoot.

37mm flare gun if nothing else. You can buy/make & use now(just getting ready for the 4th of July). Or even a 37mm pistol type would work.

http://www.firequest.com/catalog/37mm_products.html

As for the others, one would have to be ready to make them to stay legal. My place in WI has a great place for hydro electric. Take a day to put in. But if I put one in now I'd get into trouble. So I just have to have the materials ready. Hint: car & truck drive shafts are legal to own & are made of very good steel. In fact, if you study the Afghan Russian war you'll see that.... That's enough.

Your right about the SU16a. The SU16c can be used when folded. There may of times when that feature of the Charlie would be useful. Guns are engineered items. As they say: You can have inexpensive. You can have quality. You can function. Pick two, because you can't have perfect.

FWIW & IMO, the SHTF in 2007. Might get real bad & maybe it won't get real bad. Depends on what the local govs do when/if the $ collapses. A years supply of things doesn't cost much. To have a 30 year supply most of us have to be able to produce it.

I'm definately getting one of those.  Damnet, now I have to find a different set of hand guards.  I was wanting just the standard round M4 ones.  Do they make those with just a bottom rail?

Actually 30 30 is a very good caliber and has taken more deer in this country then any other caliber.

True, also a 30 30 is a good brush gun enabling you to take a deer o what ever down that's in the cove of some brush.  the 30 30 round is has a more blunter tip to it so you have a better chance of the round staying on course if it has to punch thru twigs and stuff.  the more pointed the round the greater chance of a twig or something throwing it of course.

I have a hard time narrowing it down to 3 however I have a 995, taurus millenium 9mm, and savage 110 30-06.

My wife would have a magtech 7022, 995, and a millenium 9mm.

If possible I would also carry my browning challenger 22lr, browing A5, quality pellet gun, and Thompson Omega.

The 9mm pistols and 9mm carbines allow a simple stockpile of a single affordable ammo with a reasonable range, same thing with the 22lr.  The pellet rifle is a superb small game weapon that massive amounts of ammo can be stockpiled for.  The Omega is a long term thought.  You can always make black powder if needed and lead is abundant in many locations.  When all else fails a black powder rifle may be an answer.

Eventually I would like to replace the savage 110 with an m14.  Long range, common US military round, hi capacity, lots of knockdown.  I would also consider an SKS or AK (I hate a sold my SKS when it was worth next to nothing now I want it back); however ammo for these arms may prove harder to locate than 223 and 9mm.

I never said that an M14 was .223.  I said I would like to add an m14 to my inventory. I also said, 7.62x39 would likely be a more difficult round to locate than 223 or 9mm.

Your right about the availability of 7.62x39 and 54r now.  Every academy/cabelas/bass pro/WalMart etc can help you out.  However, I was considering a complete failure of society.  The advantage to focusing on NATO rounds would be the incredible stockpiles of ammo in every police/military depot out there.  These rounds are also available in all of the same locations that your communist block rounds+every government agency out there.  I'm not saying that these depots would be easily accesible to you everyone but the quantity of these ammo types will be larger than common civilian rounds (in the US 7.62x39 and 54R are civilian rounds).  Hey just my opinion you buy what you want I was just providing some food for thought.

+1
Thats why I picked the firearms I picked for SHTF also helps to be on platform for mags.  Ultimately I would like to have Mossy 590A1, Colt M4, and Beretta M9 but I still require food and enjoy the simple pleasures of life like heat and running water so Ill have to settle for my ghetto clones.

In a prolonged SHTF where firearms are illegal or society has collapsed, I find it doubtful that one would use much ammo.  If you are, you are not keeping a low enough profile.

For that reason, sticking with only NATO rounds would not be all that important if you stocked up on rounds and/or reloading supplies.

This is just my opinion.

.22 is the cheapest and easiest to stockpile.  7.62x54r is cheap and easy to stockpile. So are most milsurp rounds.  Make sure to get primers, powder and relaodable brass too.  I also like 9mm

if you have a 9mm sidearm and 9mm pistol carbine, why give a hoot about carrying a .22lr rifle or pistol?  if you are at home or secure area, i can see having a frackin ton of .22lr ammo and firearms.  on foot, no way.

22 for multiple reasons.  One, ammo is cheap and easy to stockpile.  Two, ammo is light, and you can carry a lot of it on foot without problem.  Three, its great for small game, which is the most abundant.  Four, its one of the most easily suppressed calibers, and its quieter than a 9mm or other small game cartridge, not counting 17.

I purchased all three of mine for $500.

Remington 870, extended mag & 18.5 barrel.
Cobra .380
HP 995TS.

ATM I have at least 300 rounds for each of them and I don't dip below that.
