The Pennsylvania House Judiciary Committee is scheduled to hold a hearing on Castle Doctrine legislation next Thursday. If you live in PA, I have an email from the PA Firearm Owners Association that has links to all the Judiciary Committee members if you would like me to pass it on to you. I highly suggest that you email them because you know the gun control loonies will be on them hard. The Republicans you can all email directly at one time but the Democrats you have to fill out an online form. Once I had my email drafted and copied to my clipboard it only took me 5 minutes to fill out the forms for all 11 Democrats. 5 minutes isn't much.

Here are key provisions of HB40:

The bill eliminates the duty to retreat within one's home, including attached structures like porches, decks and patios. There is an exception for people who are using their property to further a criminal activity. The provision also applies to vehicles, including non-motorized vehicles.
The bill also eliminates the duty to retreat on the streets provided one is in fear of grave bodily injury or harm, and provided they are not engaged in criminal activity.
It provides civil immunity for actions that are ruled self-defense. If the perpetrator sues anyway, it's a loser pays system, so you can recover attorneys fees.
HB40 clarifies the definition of loaded firearm to include magazines being secured in a separate pouch, rather than specifying a separate container, provided the magazine is secure, and the ammunition covered.

Yikes, hope that passes. Ohio just got castle doctrine in 2008 but I'm glad they took care of it.

It came close to passing last year but the Philadelphia Black Caucus threatened a walkout if it came up for a vote and the rest of the state gave in.

I think there should be a vote this year and if the PBC threatens another walkout then let them walk and pass it in their absense.

i disagree. i think the whole state should be held hostage by Philadelphia and we should do whatever they want. after all, the entire rest of the state thinks just like everyone else in Philly. [rolls eyes]
