While zombies are a funny way to talk about survival, whats to say that the same tactics cant be applied to mob rule or rioting situations?

While just as dumb in most cases.  Angry mobs move faster than your stereotypical "Zombie".  Sometimes the mobs work together as well.  But Zombies never loot goods and very rarely tip cars over.  I guess they aren't into college basketball.

Have u not seen dawn/land of the dead?
those buggers could move when they were fresh in dawn. and in land, they did work together. A few of them even figured out how ton use weapons and tear down fences and stuff...
ok, rant finished. lol

I think the zombie obsession is just because every zombie movie shows a small group of (usually) armed people taking on sometimes huge, countless mobs of fugly peoplez. Sort of the few conquering over the many (except dawn of the dead, but they didn't take precautions and look before they lept) plus anyone who's played games like half life, left 4 dead, and other games of that nature can tell you, it's an interesting theory and it's fun to watch zombies go splat in so many ways.

A really good zombie story.  It's a long story and still in progress.

It sounds alot better than "Rogue Government faction", "Invasion force", "In the event of civil unrest", "A complete failure of the current social inferstructure", or other real survival concerns that people look at you like your crazy for preping for.
BUT  Zombies people just kinda laugh off and see you  as a quirky guy with a little harmless hobby and not a psycho seperatist survival nut.

Zombie scenarios are the ultimate SHTF!  Looking through some of the other topics, I couldn't help but think of zombies.  I mean, I definitely wouldn't feel bad about capping some zombies!

A word in defense of the Zombie crowd.  A world-wide pandemic that decimates the population and brings modern society to its knees is not without precedent, and the scientific and socialogical community believe it would happen even more easily today due to our reliance on technology in our daily lives.  Probably won't cause "zombies", but great unrest, and the need for survival in basic SHTF scenario.

Hear that... I always wondered how any one failed to get away from them. Some movies require monumental stupidity to make them work.

Not obsessed with them, but boy scout training says "be prepared" and hollywood has shown alot of stuff that then came true, you did see Neos zombie ant post didn't you?? Just a couple steps up and some weird thing lays eggs in peoples heads...and presto zombie. While you're shaking your head not believing your eyes. I'll be saying "yep Zombie BANG good night"  devilsidesmile

+1 "zombie invasion" for me has always been code for "mass rioting and civil unrest" situations.  Large groups of desperate people, very little if any law and order, etc.  The same kind of strategies apply - stock up on food and ammo, avoid large population centers, remain armed at all times, find a group of trusted people and look out for each other...  That kind of stuff.
