I don't come across "bubba'd" milsurps other than online or in tales from friends and such but I have seen 3 mosins and an enfield mk4 that had been tortured and left for dead in the last month.
the first was the chinese t53 at the local shop, not cut up but bent and broken(probably beyond saving)
the second was a mk 4 with a cut down and reshaped stock and drilled and tapped at a local show.
at the same show was a 1916 hex reciever with a cut down barrel (to about 16") butchered stock ,black hole bore, hunting rifle front blade sight(with screws sticking out)and the adjustable rear sight set with jb weld.he wanted 100 bucks and I walked away at 85.
The last one was at my lgs and he had a 1944 M44 with a drilled and tapped reciever and bent bolt handle but was otherwise in ok shape

The m44 sounds like a trip to the pound.
You see that straggly pup wagging its tail and figure it may not be the perfect pet but with a little TLC will make a reliable family member.
Plus the price is always better then a pedigree.
Put a scope back on it and take it home to the family.

Here's an after pic with my other M44
The mounting holes were all messed up so I went with a scopemount that replaces the rear sight.
