I live pretty close to work, and its all surface streets to get there and back. Nothing exciting usually happens.
Last night, about a mile or so from my house, I am sitting in a left hand turn lane waiting for the cars ahead of me to get their break in the traffic. Two or three cars ahead of me get their chance to turn but the guy directly in front of me just sits there, not moving. I noticed that his hazard lights were on so I start to go around him. That seems to wake him up because he rolled forward to the crosswalk and turned of the flashers. When the light turns yellow he gets his chance and so do I. But as we are both going through the intersection, he slows down to a near stop and leaves me hanging out in the intersection, blocking traffic. I decide he is probably experiencing mechanical difficulties and his car is dead. So I slingshot around him to get out of the way of the intersection.
As soon as it is clear what I am doing, he nails the gas and tries to keep up with me. I had the jump on him though, so I managed to get ahead of him. When I get past him, he starts tailgating me hardcore and I realize that I may have a situation on my hands. I decide I am not going home for a little while. I changed lanes and so did he. Then he changed again and passed me, but he passed slowly. I glanced at him to look for anything menacing but it was too dark to tell. We went through a traffic circle side by side and I thought he was gonna keep on going but at the last second he darted in behind me and took the same street that I took.
Now I'm feeling a little nervous. Not nervous that I was gonna get hurt, but nervous that I may actually need my gun which until this point had been resting passively in its holster. I thought about my options. I could pull over and be ready for him to come to my door, I could just keep driving around and not go home, waiting to see how aggressive he got. Or I could mess with him. I decided to keep driving. He continued tailgating me and made a couple more turns with me, but eventually he started to back off and finally he took a right when I took a left.
When he was gone, I was suprised at how calm I felt. I took great comfort in knowing that if things really got hairy, I had what I needed to take care of myself.
i just re-read that and its really dorky, but i'm too tired right now to rewrite it so its not so dorky. anyway, that was my drive home last night.

Don't feel bad, I have been in the same spot and I always had a gun with me. You will get this more in bigger cities. This is the way the world is going...sad but it's the truth.

Glad nothing came of it, I think you did the right thing by driving around until he got tired of following you and left.

yeah, i'm glad it worked out the way it did. no need to make things any more interesting. although after its over you run through your head all the ways it could of turned out. i thought about what it would have been like if i just kept driving around in circles in the traffic circle. that would have been funny.

That's kind of scary man...you never know what kind of crazy people are out there cruising around. I'd say you did the exact right thing, I had a similar deal happen one time, and did the same thing...just kept driving. Another option would be go to somewhere really busy like a gas station that's well lighted, plus many times there are police hanging out near gas stations, especially if it's late at night. Atleast you have a weapon if you need it...but hope you don't

Just one more thing, one time I had a jerk on my tail following me around town at night...I knew where cops sit and park their cop cars, so I just pulled up in front of the cop and stood behind my car. Cop saw this this and asked me what was going on, I stated that driver was acting crazy towards me. Cop went after that car. So, this is another way to handle a problem like this.

i thought about that. i generally avoid law enforcement of any kind though, they tend to give me a hard time

Once I had a guy riding my tailgate in traffic. He started honking so I pulled over on a side street. Got out of my truck and reached for the jack handle laying in the back. Then the guy started yelling at me and laughing. Turns out it was a guy that I used to work with and he thought what he was doing was funny. I barely even knew the guy. I didnt have a gun with me but I was ready to tear some ass with that jack handle. After it happend I just kept thinking about how badly things could have went if a few things were different. Hopefully now days I will handle things better. My girlfriend did think I was a badass after that though.

lol that would have been pretty epic though. I'm sure nobody at that job would have thought it a good idea to screw with you.

I've had that happen. Cell phone is my first line of defense. They tend to head the other direction when they see you making a call.

The number 1 rule in concealed carry... Bring a gun.
Glad things worked out for you Bomber. Situations like that really get under my skin. I don't like feeling nervous and when people start asking stupid like that, I get edgy.
