Hey everyone, my name is Robert, I live in Long Beach, CA, and I've done a ton of reading about HP and I am very surprised with what I've read.  It started out by looking for an inexpensive gun.  Seeing a handgun for less than 200 dollars seemed too good to be true.  Apparently, its not.

Originally I wanted to get the .45 but it seems to not be DOJ approved which is rather disappointing.  I will probably go with a C9, but I need to figure out where to buy it.  Turner's sells it for 169.99, which is $15 over MSRP.  Seems like I should be able to find a better price on one.  Excited to finally be a first time gun owner.

Sounds like a familiar story Roll Eyes(like mine), except I was able to buy for $129 here in KY. Welcome to HPFF

I think I was just reading about that a few minutes ago. I'm going to start calling around to find it cheaper.  I don't want to pay that much if I can help it.  My hours are cut back for school, otherwise I would just pay the extra and get it.

That is disappointing, but at least you don't live in Chicago!

Why is that?  What's wrong with Chicago, besides the Cubs?  Sorry, I couldn't help myself.  I miss baseball.

You can't carry at all in Illinois and you have to get a dang permit just to buy ammo!

Wow, I think its really easy in California to buy Ammo.  I don't plan on carrying though.  I mainly want one for home defense.  Somebody got into my backyard while I was gone the other night and my girlfriend was terrified.  So she is finally ok with us owning a gun.  The HP C-9 seems like the best option.  The problem is that I've heard the 9mm's don't have enough stopping power.  That's the only thing that concerns me.

I hate to steer anyone away from a Hi Point, but if you don't plan to carry and home defense is all you are looking for, get yourself a pump action 12 gauge!

A shotgun would not be a good option because my girlfriend couldn't handle it and I have too many animals in the house.  They are like my kids and I don't want to put them at risk.

from previous posts the C9 goes approx 23in into ballistics gel...that times 8 rounds should be more than enough to stop in intruder.  it is infact my home defense. shotgun, even w/ a short 18.5in barrel, is to long and bulky to worry about having to turn around in a hallway or stairwell, but to each their own

If collateral damage is a concern, then yes, a handgun is pretty good as a defense piece in the home. 9mm's "Stopping Power" is not a concern if you know how to shoot. Which, if you buy a gun I recommend you take a course to learn some basic techniques/drills, etc. If this is your first time owning a handgun, then for sure take the initiative and get some training.

I think 9mm is just fine. Just learn your stuff.

Actually, there's a guy on YouTube by the name of MillerUSAF who speaks pretty highly of Hi Point C-9s, and even shows some drills in the event the thing jams, some firing drills, positions, etc. Let me get that URL...here we go. http://www.youtube.com/user/millerusaf

But yeah, shottys the best, don't do it if you're really worried about your aim and blowing away fluffy though.

Cheers.
