Stryker1,

That's an excellent post you made.  That's also a great way to prepare the lead into ingots before putting them through your Lee Production Pot to help keep it clean.  When bullet casting, it's nice to have a stack of ingots on hand.  Whenever the lead in the pot starts to get a little low, just drop a couple ingots in at a time for non-stop production.  You can go all day long like that and with a 6-cavity mold, can make a scary amount of bullets in an afternoon.

I was hoping you would chime in Wizard93. You have given my alot of info on this and for that Thank you.

When I was running my bullets I fluxed the lead in the production pot agian. Just to be on the safe side.

You're very welcome, Stryker1.  Hopefully, we'll have everyone here reloading and bullet casting by the end of the year.  Wink

BTW, I wouldn't plan on making cornbread in those pans again any time soon.  lol.

just dont get the cornbread mixed up with the lead, I have a feeling when you threw cornbread fish into the melting pot, it would have less then desirable effects.

The lead pipes are not to bad on the inside. I was a plumber for a while and most of the build up comes right out with a couple of hits together???

Lead plumbing may not be too bad, but you might have to add some tin and/or linotype to the mix to harden it a little.  Most of that plumbing lead is pure lead.  That would be perfect for muzzle loader bullets, but too soft for the heavier cartridges.

That's why wheelweight alloy is the most popular.  It's usually the most user-friendly alloy and the easiest to obtain.

You can harden the lead with water chilling.I don't know how much this increases the hardness but i'm sure it's somewhere on the web.

Find some home window installers, they replace old windows all the time and some of those windows are the old counter balanced type that have the large lead counter weights inside. Once you find a installer offer him a free lunch for the weights, my last haul was about 40 pounds and it cost me a cheese steak and a Coke. They replace these counter weights style windows about once or maybe twice a month and depending on how many windows they replace one could walk away with a nice sum of lead.
