That, was, ouch. I can't even begin to imagine what my reaction to such a situation might be. I probably would stare at it for a few moments to make sure what I was looking at was actually happening. In pain, of course.

Sadly enough, it seem like about every couple of months a pic like this will make the rounds on the gun boards.
You guys that are new to shooting, you can never check the weapon enough to make sure it is empty before putting it up, transporting it, passing it to someone else, or taking it apart for cleaning.
Ive said it before, I ALWAYS check 3 times. That is my lucky number.
Anal I guess, but I will go out of this world in a different way than shooting myself by accident.

I'm one of those constant gun fondlers and tinkerers and I've fallen into the habit of dropping the mag and working the action of any firearm I pick up, even if it's just to carry it from here to the kitchen to snap a pic. I may waste a few seconds here and there taking mags out and putting them back in, I may be putting another 1/1,000,000th of wear on my action....
But I know that having a hole in me will cost me a lot more time in the long run. If my luck is bad it could cost me ALL my time.

Ouch. In reality, shock will prevent you from feeling too much very initially. I fear there is little to be salvaged, from my experience, with that type of injury, but orthopedics, and neurosurgeons will be working on that hand for a long time, to save as much function as possible, and it won't hurt to ask the Big Physician for a lot of His particular type of doctoring. I sarcastically clear my firearms when I have them out. Lucky my wife doesn't think I am nuts for checking the chamber a dozen times every place I move it! |
