Another comment on naming conventions: the "C" in JC and JCP may stand for "Cole", while the "H" in the JH line may stand for "Haskell".
In all cases -- and this is far more definitive -- the final 'P' indicates Polymer and, if missing -- as in JC and JH -- the pistol has a metal frame. Yeah, I love my metal C9, JC, and JH!

I knew that about the "P", but the the ideas for C and H is some good stuff!
In which case...what is the J for?

The 'C' and 'H' almost certainly stand for Cole and Haskell: Early 9mms were labeled JS-9s, where 'S' sounds suspiciously like Stallard.
So when did 'JS' change to 'C'? Still digging...

The JS changed to C when they went from the large frame to the smaller "compact" frame.Which is what the "C" stands for.

09/04/1987
Company: Stallard Arms, Inc.
Signatory: Edward Boyd Stallard
Action: Incorporated: 728 Fairfax Ave. Mansfield, OH

When I read above about September 1987 I was like I wonder if it was my birthday...when I got here it turns out that I was born the day before "Hi-Point" was. Thought that was pretty neat and a gives me even more pride in the company and my C9.
