beautiful. Love to see personal work. It just means a little more to me. I like the HP configuration myself. What gave mr the idea of cutting the shroud down was that its tapered anyway. I measured the taper and then the length of the compensator. Almost spot on. I'll put it on this weekend and post it.

The dragon idea came from the Draco pistol. I looked it up and in Latin Draco means dragon. Thus the dragon theme. And yes the bump stock will be fitted on the AK. I'll post it as well when I get that far. First comes the custom shroud for the AK. That's costing me some bucks.

Your AK is great and your right. Saiga conversion is not bad. Everything is dimpled for the AK configuration anyway so why not order a sporterizes saiga and end up with a customized, new AK. The bullet Guide was a bit tough. Only because it has to be perfect. But I do like being able to use all types of Magazines.

awesome work!!!

Thanks for the welcome - I've been wanting to participate but didn't know how to get in there. So I just decided to throw it out and see what happened. I have four HP Carbines. Three 9mm's and one 40 Cal. (My favorite) My 11 year old son has claimed one of the 9mm's and has done some work on it him self. I think he did a good job for his age. He has a red dot scope on his and thinks he's the cats meow. He wanted something engraved on his like I did the AK. I asked him how it felt when he fired the carbine and he said "Pure Sweetness". So we looked up the word Sweetness in Latin and I had it engraved for him on the trigger assembly cover. Turned out sweet. lol - I'll post a pic as this will make him happy. In case your wondering, I heated the shield and used Crayon to highlight the engraving. The wax melts right into the engraving and then wipes right off the finished part of the cover. Saw a demo on Youtube and decided to try it. works great. White Crayon on the black background makes it pop.

By the way - He dediced on Green for the base color of the rifle and tried a black tiger stripe camo. Not bad for an 11 year old and I let him do it all himself. I figured, if he made a mistake or didn't like it; we could always do it over. He like's it like it is so that's that. It's his rifle and a good one to start with. He actually started with a 20 shot 22 lR so the 9mm was super awesome for him. He also saved his money and purchased a Remington 870 to hunt bird with. Shot his first Dove last year. He winged it and had to kill the bird with his hand when it hit the ground. I was afraid of how he would react but told him it had to be done. I showed him what to do and he pinched the birds neck and did a good job on not makeing the animal suffer. We cleaned our birds together and ate them that night. He ate his and thought it was great. I guess for a man (and women to) there something about hunting, killing, prepairing and eating your own food. Lets us know that this skill will keep us alive. Hit home with my son for sure. We joined the hunting club this year and will do some differant things.

i dont wanna be that guy but.......

saiga are NOT "true reconverted AK47's"

nice guns, and im no expert, but the only 2 parts i even see that are interchangeble with an AK/AKM are the receiver cover, and "possibly" the receiver, but im not sure how the trunnions are pinned and what not. ive never built one

and i dont mean to offend you, i get the whole saigas are 100% russian made thing, thats cool, i have a baikal 12 guage auto that i like better than my beretta

what did the conversion run you roughly ? not the duracoat and extras...just the mod itself ?

prices have gone crazy lately, and im thinking of another AK, and i have never done a build

Well - The Saiga's are built in the Kalashnikov building in Russia by IZMASH. This is the company that builds the updated, upgraded AK assault rifles for the world. There are hack builders everywhere but it's the Saiga that everyone wants. of course I'm sure a nice AK with very little use and from the old Wasr era can be purchased for a few grand. But I chose a brand new rifle that I built myself. The dimples for building a Saiga AK47 are all in tact being that all of the hard ware used to build the assault version and the hunting version are stamped and formed from the same manufacturing line. They are then lotted to either become a hunting version that can be sold to the West or an Assault version that the rest of the world wants. Most of the issues that the old AK had have been addressed by IZMASH and it has become a more dependable weapon. An IZMASH/Saiga Assault version can be purchased or built from between 7 and 8 hundred bucks depending on how far you want to go on the build and be 922r compliant. I changed the trigger assembly to an American made TAPCO assembly because of the smooth pull and upgraded parts and springs. Also, I added a bullet guide so that my rifle will take the issued AK magazines or pretty much any magazine on the market. Mine came with a cut out in the Safety/dust cover that holds the bolt open and this was done in Russia. Also, the wood furniture from the old Wasr AK's fit the IZMASH. It's just that a little work has to be done where the hand grip pins have been upgraded. I've been offered a lot of money for my rifle so far and I'm still waiting for the customized barrel shroud/compensator to make it onto the rifle. So far I have about 1100 bucks in my rifle. If I sell it, I will make some cash for sure. And the only reason I would sell it is so that I can do another build or two. I really enjoy building custom rifles. Used the money I made from selling one of my SKS's to do this project.

I look at my rifle and see a true AK47. I fire my rifle and feel the same rifle I fired in the ARMY and see the same results I saw in the ARMY. I guess it's all on how you look at it. Wasr AK or IZMASH AK - M16 with a rifle stock made by Mattel or a M16 A2. (For those that do not know, Mattel toy company made the furniture for the early AR 15's and M16's) Both are two bad mother's. I just happen to think we are talking Apples and Apples. AK = Semi Auto and AKM = Full Auto - IZMASH has been building these AK's for 30 years now to cover the demand for the AK's that are either Wasr age or new IZMASH more dependable rifles.

Prices have gone crazy - My personal opinion is that the IZMASH, Hi-Point Carbines, etc. are all going to start going through the roof in price. Buy now while things are affordable.

If you decide to build an AK through IZMASH/Saiga and plan on putting a compensator on the barrel, let me know. I will have a threading kit used only once for sale. M14x1LH with TAT for 30 Cal bore. I hope you do decide to purchase either a sporterized version and build it or have it built for you. Hell, I'll do it for you. lol - I think you would be surprised and become a proponent for the IZMASH/Saiga AK47.

Best Regards,

Greg

Just finished threading the Barrel. Went pretty well. Everything is straight and tapered as it should be. Just sent word to the fellow fabricating the Shroud. Hopefully it wont take to long and then the rifle will be complete.

never thought about cutting my barrel shroud down to allow for a compensator. hoping you'll post up whenever you get that sorted.
bump stock is for the ak, right?
Third try as I'm watching the baby as I'm trying to write.

finished the merging of the shroud and compensator today. The shroud is inset a bit so the compensator fits inside the shroud just enough to look like one piece.

Need some opinions, Criticism, advice, etc. I though of leaving the pieces desert and maybe going the length with a black tiger camo stripe. Or, maybe leaving both pieces black and then going down the length with a desert tiger stripe air brushed on. Could leave the configuration either totally black or totally desert but I think it would take away from the look of the rifle as a whole.

Thought about turning the compensator up. That is pointing the clamping section with screw straight up, filing down the rough parts and then putting a very small piece of shrink tube over the screw and clamp section. Either Red, or maybe fiber optic glow green and using it as sort of a site. The rifle has a Red/green cross hair scope on it anyway so it would just be for looks and I could get rid of that part that just kind of hangs down to clamp around the barrel. I never did like this and was trying to do something different with it.

Pictures attached. Thanks for feed back. Sorry for duplicates if there are any. As I said this is my third attempt.

Greg.
