Default 1st 100 rounds thru new C9

I picked up my new C9 on Friday the 29th. I had a busy weekend so it had to sit for a week. Meanwhile I ordered 3 mags for it.
Today I took it to the range with 100 rounds of Federal. I loaded 5 rounds in each mag & started throwing them at the 100 yard berm. The slide would lock back after the 4th round with each mag. The 5th bullet was nose down in all 4 mags. I figured it was still breaking in. I loaded 6 rounds in each & fired them off. Only 1 FTF this time. After about 50 rounds all seemed to be working well.

I put up a target at 15 yards & made some holes in it. The sights were low & left. I adjusted the elevation & brought it up pretty well. The windage screw would not turn so I just used the one from Kentucky til I could check the instructions.

The pistol worked perfectly. I had one more FTF on the last round of the day. I guess a few more boxes will help smooth things out with the mags. I must say that I could use the practice as I was all over the place. Trigger control. I have not fired a pistol since 1964. Something else I will have to work out is the grip. I have a large hand and the bottom corner of the mag digs into the heel of my hand some.

I learned quite a bit about this pistol on these boards so that I was comfortable with the mag problems. It really helps when you have an idea what to expect so thanks for the forums & all the advice therein.

John

Good to hear. Hopefully you saved some ammo and loaded those mags up. Best to load them full and let them sit until you take her out again.

I assume these were the 8 round mags? They are a bit bothersome to my big hands too, I have a ten rounder that I went totally through that works well so I usually use it when I am shooting, then since it's the wife's bedside gun I throw the 8 rounders back into it when it goes back to it's post there. I never had any problems with the 8 round ones, but then the C9 Comp was well-used when I got hold of it is maybe why. I do know that even now it gets smoother the more I shoot, but I replaced a lot of parts when I first got it so I supposed they are all breaking in now!

The biggest problem is they really like to be fed a lot! It's probably a good thing it's a 20 minute drive to my buddy's house where I shoot or I might be using the milk money on ammo!

Thanks guys. I will pick up another box & load up the mags full. I already figured that the 10 rd mags may be better so I will pick some of them up too. They just ugly but being a KLR rider I should not be worried about how ugly my other possessions are.

Actually, the 10 rounders have spotty reliability, so I'd stick to 8's for now. I'd recommend you file out any burrs or ridges in the magazine lips, and then (if you have calipers) check the mag lips for proper dimensions. Those are the usual culprits. Also, leaving your mags loaded when they're not in use will help to break in the springs.
