Default C9 Questions

Can anyone explain the actual size difference between the C9 and the 40 or 45?

Is the overall gun smaller?

Is the grip area smaller?

Is it too big for pocket or concealed carry?

Here is a pic. Top is my SW40VE Sigma, then the JCP .40, then the C9 Comp. Take the compensator length off and you basically have the standard C9.

Yes, the grip size is smaller, and the overall size as well. The C9 is pretty close to the same size as my Sigma with the 8 round mag in it.

While I would say yes, its too big for pocket carry just from the sheer weight of it, it can be CC'd easily in a IWB or and OWB like a Don Hume JIT.

It redirects gas upwards just after the bullet leaves the muzzle, basically pushing the front of the gun back down so that you can remain on target much easier. You don't notice much difference unless you are firing some decently hot loads. Noisier, longer and heavier. Have to remove the compensator to remove the slide. Even more nose heavy than a regular C9. BUT... you do have a rail on the bottom of it that you can mount stuff to!

A standard C9 is no more wide than a Glock or Taurus semi-auto, but it is a bit heavier. I carried a C9 for years driving a taxi in a paddle holster either under shirt or in my messenger bag next to my console, and didn't find it difficult at all. "Pocket" carry? No. It is too big and besides, I'm not a fan of such a carrying position.

Either way, it is a good CCW pistol for 3 season carry, and it's footprint isn't as big as it's silhouette hints it at being

Pocket carry is great unless you're someone who can't easily stand up to gain access to your pocket. You know, like a professional driver (taxi, trucker, limo, etc.).

C9 in a pocket? You better have some huge pockets, it won't even fit in my BDU front or rear pocket.

And some real good suspenders too!

Most "pocket carry" guns are much smaller, along the lines of the LCP, the Keltecs, or some of the smaller snubnose revolvers.
