Default I don't want to give him back his 45 JHP...

I found out the other day that my father in law has a 45 JHP. He put 100 or so rounds through it when he bought it for $75 ten years ago, then put it back in the box, and there it stayed until he heard me talking about Hi-Point. It was funny, because He has mostly higher-end guns, and I was starting to think he was a bit snobbish about them. He is the kind of guy who is really into guns, but doesn't shoot them nearly as much as he would like, but then again, don't we all. The man has a ton of guns, and has never sold any of them.

So, he told me I could borrow the 45, and I took him up on it. Not surprisingly, I'm impressed. I put a few dozen rounds through it, and the gun is accurate, reliable, and very comfortable to handle and shoot. I had never shot a 45 ACP pistol before, so I don't have a comparison in that regard, but I have fired many others (9mm, 380 ACP, 40S&W, 357 and 44 mag). It actually seems to have less recoil than my ruger 9mm. I didn't shoot them side by side, that's just the impression I got.

I'm thinking about telling him there's no need to worry about what to get me for christmas. ^-^ The JHP will be fine, thanks.

I agree, the JHP is about as light a recoiling pistol as any I own.

Heck, give him $75 for it, if he won't give it up...tell him it is for his daughter's safety!

Just tell him to give it to you in his will and you will keep it safe untill then. If your wife is a only child he will probly want you to have some of them anyway. My wife is a only child and I know my father in law would want me to have his guns when he passes so that one day they can go to his grandchild along with my collection.

Can't say as I blame you, for not wanting to let that old Hi-Point get out of your sight, I have one of the original, old .45's, too, and it is still a great shooter! (It might also explain why I now have TWO JHP .45's!
(Umm, did I mention that I now proudly own 8 Hi-Points? I've probably "sold" more Hi-Points than most dealers, just by telling people about them, and showing people how well they shoot and perform, even to letting them shoot mine, with my ammo!
These things sure do grow on you!

After being real satisfied with a recent 995TS purchase, I picked up a JHP at my LGS when I saw it for $125. I'm used to a 1911 so I found it to be a little top-heavy at first, but so far it's been reliable and accurate. And I can count on the scorn of the gun snobs. What more can you ask?

Oops. I just learned a bit more about these guns and realized that it's not the JHP. In case everyone doesn't know, the P in JHP stands for polymer. This one doesn't have the polymer frame. It's steel.

Question: What is this one missing that the polymer version has? Is it better in any ways?

The JH had a smaller mag capacity. 7 rounds i thing, and the mag catch was a heel, or euro style. They also did not have a last round hold open feature.
