Default Disappointing first time with 995TS - stovepipes - Remington 115 gr

Had a disappointing first shoot with my new 995TS - way too many stovepipes.

I was using Remington 9mm, 115 gr. Anyone else run into problems with that type of ammo?

I shot 50 of the Remington UMC 115's and they ran perfectly for me. Maybe you got a weakly loaded batch that were not allowing the action to cycle hard enough for quality extraction/ejection. Wal-Mart's federal champion 9mm is cheap at 10.47 a box and always works great for me.

Is it possible that the magazine spring is too stiff?

I hand-unloaded a magazine of those bullets and noticed that when I pushed the top one off, the one underneath would also be pushed forward and it would tilt up out of the magazine instead of being flat with the top.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

There's a sticky on here thats a "must-read" on the magazines. Loading and unloading them a few times a day and storing them fully loaded will break them in quickly. Deburr the ears and set them to the specs in the sticky and you should have smooth sailing!

Be careful of UMC ammo. Near junk most of the time.

Will make a point of avoiding it!

Yep, thats the one... you may note that your mags already have the radius on the ears, from what some are saying, new mags from HP come like that now so they are catching on to what we are doing on here, lol.

I bought an Uplula speedloader for all my mags, my tired old thumb just refused to get that last round in the mag, especially when new. I sat and watched TV for a few nights and loaded and unloaded my new mags for the HP's as well as my Sigma, and it made a world of difference the next time I went shooting. While not perfect, they were much better. Setting the ears and a fluff n buff pretty well straightened them out 100%.

Here's a link to a thread that includes discussion and pictures:

There's probably a more proper name like 'failure to eject', but I've always heard it called a stovepipe.
