Default Right side charging handle for the 995

After evaluating the workmanship of the compensator from TGR Enterprises, Inc. / Brass Stacker, http://www.BrassStacker.com, I took the plunge and bought the handle. Just installed it this afternoon and could not be more pleased. I was skeptical from the pics, it did not look to be strong enough. Boy, was I ever wrong. I've jerked it way harder than is required to charge the rifle, and it is beyond rock solid. And looks sooo much better than the knob. Now I really want one for my 4595 !

You do loose the lock open feature of the knob, but I seldom need to lock it open anyway. Just though I'd pass it along.

Very nice!

That flash makes the bolt like the old brownish color on a 100 year old gun!

Yeah, something is funky with the color balance. I'm not much of a photographer.

I use the hold open feature when cleaning the chamber. So, I played around and got to put back the left side charging handle. The hold open feature works and I made it spring loaded so pulling back on the right side charging handle releases it.

It's just to see if it could work. It works, but it's ugly. I don't have the tools to make a small button type handle and wish Brass Stacker would make something like this. Also, why don't they make the head of their bolt small enough that you don't have to remove the shroud to install the handle?

Very nice Wheeljack. I'll have to take a look into doing that myself. Simple, functional, and doesn't look that bad.

I fabricated a left side handle to keep the open feature of the original handle.

I made a smaller handle, just a knob, with a spring, so with the slide brought all the way back, I could push the knob in to hold the slide back. Then when I pulled the right side handle back, the spring releases the knob and letting go of the right side handle loads a round.

I actually learned to like the original, left side charging handle. It keeps my shooting hand on the grip, where it belongs.

Wheeljack, It seems like now it would be necessary for you to use both hands to actuate the BHO?

Ah, so! Yes using the smaller knob in place of the original one, makes it hard to retract the bolt. So, yes, I use both hands. But, I have options.
Right hand charging handle only. Right, with original left handle and right, with smaller knob to be able to use the hold open, usually only for cleaning.
Truth be told, I was left my brothers M1 Carbine. I loved it, but found out that in Jersey, it's an illegal weapon. It's BS, but the law, so I passed the M1 on to my other brother. That left me without a carbine, and without a carbine that had a right side charging handle. So, I bought the right side charging handle in memory of the M1 carbine I lost and then tried to compensate with the left side, smaller, handle.

It's hard to make sense of things when emotions get in the way.
