Default Mossberg 715T opinions?

Hi everyone. Just looking to get everyones opinion on Mossbergs tactical .22 it looks amazing for the price found one at the LGS $259 and wanted to buy it but havent heard anything about the reliabilty and what not so i thought i would ask everyones opinion. couple of the concerns i have, 1. im not sure i like the look of the carry handle on the top so i looked around on the internet and found they do make a flat top version so i guess im asking is there any practical advantage/uses to the handle? 2. How are the stock sights? is there a way to put a scope on but still be able to use the sights so if i were to have to shoot quickly i could use the sights rather than taking time to scope the target? i've seen and like the look of a red dot scope on this weapon. 3. I would like a forward hand grip so anyone know where i can find one? 4. it looks like it is hard to disassemble so is it hard to clean?

any input would be helpful and much appreciated thanks in advance everyone

i researched buying one last september & ended up getting another issc mk22 rifle.
if i were to buy something similar i'd probably pick up a ruger 10/22, put an arch angel kit on it & it'd fill my tactikewl needs

haven't held a mossberg, but was told by others it feels cheap & isn't as accurate as other 22lr rifles. if going w/mossberg would definitely prefer the flat top over the handle since it puts any scope or red dot so high over the barrel

here's a review & video of dis assembly/reassembly of 715, too funny. just a bit into the review he says his mossy is more accurate than the 10/22. i think many times accuracy has more to do w/the operator than whatever weapon they're testing.....

issc mk22 desert sand. i like how the cheek rest can be adjusted as well as folding & expandable butt stock. these are made in same factory as gsg or hk 22lr rifles/pistols. i did have some problems w/feeding & cycling w/my desert sand rifle, but was quickly fixed by the warranty folks. biggest grip was having to send in a new never fired rifle due to firing pin not hitting hard enough. i asked if they could send out another spring set & firing pin, but they preferred to see & repair the rifle themselves.
i also went with these due to having a lothar-walther match grade barrel

I have the Mossberg Tactical 22 with the carry handle. It's a fun, cheap gun to shoot, as are all .22s. To answer your specific questions....

The carry handle is exactly that. It also houses the rear sight. It mimics the look of a AR 15 rifle and other than that it limits sighting options except for a top mount (that comes with it). Had they had the flat top version when I got mine, that would have been my choice. Over all with the carry handle peep sight I can hold minute-of-milkjug rapid fire at 100 yards and hit my spinner at 50 yards all day. The gun would do much better than that with a optic. I can do well with the stock carry handle peep and front post sights during slow fire. As well, if not better than, I can with any "iron" sights.

The one thing I did to the stock gun to help it's accuracy was to put a thin rubber O-ring around the barrel under the front sight post where the two plastic halves screw together. That alleviated any barrel movement in that area, and helped the accuracy immensely. It was a $.25 fix, which Mossberg should have thought of.

Cleaning isn't an issue if you can turn a screw driver. There are about a dozen screws that hold the two halves together, sandwitching the 702 Plinkster action and barrel in the ATI polymer stock. That's really all it is. Unless I do a total break-down every 1000 or so rounds, I just use a Bore Snake through the barrel after shooting each time.

I think Amazon is the best place to get inexpensive add-ons, like a VFG, but they're available from hundreds of places if you do a quick google search.

Overall I like the Mossberg Tac .22. If you plan on having a super accurate tactical style .22, this is not the best choice, but for a plinker it certainly fills the bill. Inexpensive, stylish, and preassembled as compared to the Arch Angel kit. I considered that kit for my Remington 597, but I got the whole Mossberg gun for less than the price of the Arch Angel kit. That, in itself, was a win.

Really it depends on your personal choice and how much you're willing to spend. The are much "nicer" tactical .22s out there at much higher prices. The Mossy hasn't malfunctioned on me, even once.

From what I have read.. accuracy is a little bit of an issue with some particular guns... 2" groups at 50 yards is about the average... $260+tax is alot to spend for a gun for that kind of accuracy in my book... That being said I have never shot or even held one so take that for what its worth... You might want to check out your local Wally World.. I saw one of these in the gun case last Friday for $227...

I have the non tac 702. Do NOT use remington gold bulk. Thatll eliminate ur dependability. It does feel cheap but is effective. Buddy of mine has one. Personal preference

I agree about the remington bulk and federal bulk, too. Unreliable and inaccurate. It does very well with CCI Blazer, though.

I have the 715 also, and my experience is the same as Yeoldetool's. The mags were kind of a pain at first. After the first ten rounds I had to insert a tool to pull down the lower spring. It loosened up after a while, tho, and I have no problem loading all 25 rounds now. It's light, surprisingly accurate with the stock sights, and has been very reliable - as long as I don't try to put Rem bulk through it. Fed has been fine, but the Rem bulk is awful. Fed Lightning is good, Rem Thunderbolts work, and CCI is fine in everything I've tried.

i wish i could find one for that price i would have already bought. My walmart doesnt carry guns except muzzleloaders. i have checked at least 25 diffrent websites(probobly more) and the cheapest one i have found is Buds and they are $239 but only available to the "VIP" members and that is an extra 25 bucks. If anyone comes across a good deal in ohio, or on the web please let me know.

anyone have an answer about my scope question? what i was wondering was if i were to put a scope on it, are the sights and rail set up where i could still use to iron sights if i had to pull up and shoot quickly?
