Default 45-70 ammo.

What's the best deal for 45-70 ammo? Just need general "plinking" rounds.

Target Sports USA has 200 rounds for $286.90 with free shipping. That's $1.43 per round which works out to $28.70 per box of 20. Its Hornady LeverEvolution.

Single boxes are $28.65 each plus shipping from the same vendor.

This is the cheapest I've found, but I don't really trust "Load X" as a name brand.

Should have thought about this before buying the gun.

You can get the more velocity, same or equal terminal performance, and much flatter shooting in 308win, 30-06, or a host of other cheaper calibers.

45-70 is definitely a round for reloaders if you want plinking ammo. Most manufacturers don't make it because it most likely wouldn't sell.

Edit: it sounds kinda douchey buts its not really. Haha

LOL. I can honestly say it's not my rifle. It's the neighbors. He knows I buy a lot of ammo.(22lr, 9mm, 223) so asked if I would find something for him. I've done a little research and am suprised that the Hornandy seems to be the least expensive. $1.50 a round inexpensive, did I just say that?
If I get him a case, he'll likely be set for quite awhile.

Thanks for the info!

Yeah, it'll sure lob a round out there. They'll throw a 300 grain cast lead projectile at around 1,600 feet per second.

Old military round, quite famous. Good stopper for large dangerous game when loaded right. Guns range from old trapdoor Springfields to tomorrows latest lever action grizzly guns.

Slow.

Belted magnums pretty much make this round all but obsolete.

I load my 45-70's with 405 grain gas checked cast bullets which chrony at 1875-1900 fps with 3200 ft lbs of energy. The 45-70 is anything but anemic A fun round to shoot albeit a little painful at times.
