My favorite? (Note: all I do is range target shooting)
9mm. Low cost, moderate recoil, use it in my 995 carbine.
Then .22LR. Lower cost, lower recoil, use it in my Ruger Mark III Target for Speed Steel competitions.

However, my son and daughter both REALLY enjoy shooting the 7.62x54R out of our Mosin...

(this may all change soon, too, seeing as I just bought a Hi-Point JHP (.45 ACP) and a Ruger GP-100 (.357/.38)...

Hmm... all I need now is a carry holster for the GAU-8 30mm Gatling gun...

I like shooting almost everything, but in terms of favorites 9mm comes first, use in both Glock 19 and 995TS. I have a .45 combination (MillPro PT145 and 4595) but 9mm is a bunch less expensive and I just like it better. .22lr 'cause like everybody else I can shoot all day, virtually no recoil, again both pistol and rifle. I have a thing about .32 also.

.22lr for the hours of cheap fun in both rifles and hand guns. 9mm easy to find ammo, reasonably priced. 12ga shooting clays is fun!

To each is own on calibers. My favorite handgun caliber is .40 sw. I have lots of handguns in almost all calibers but my Glock 27 is my daily carry and with extended mag. carry 2 more rounds for 11+1. .40 sw in a +p load has very adequat ballistics for speed and knock down power. Rifle round favorite is 30.06 because I have several rifles in that round, staying standard with all. The right load has very good ballistics for most applications. Favorite carbine round is
.223 although I really like shooting the AK47 7.62X39 but seems the AR15 has it beat for accuracy.

It's cheap, it's fun, and well, it's cheap.

This is tough. I love shooting a lot of things. I enjoy shooting .22 because you can just keep popping them off like its nothing and not have to worry about putting a hole in the wallet. Too long of a list of 22s around our house to list.

But then again i love shooting 9mm from time to time as my hipoint is a 9mm, then we got a ruger lc9 which is a little fun hand cannon and then the Springifled XDM (have to be careful with the 19 round magazine cause I can shoot a lot of 9mm very fast).

My next favorite caliber would have to be the 7.62x39 for our AK which is a joy to shoot.
Then it would be .40 cal from the glock.
Last but not least 10mm, main reason for it being last is it is expensive to shoot 10mm and although it has a huge kick from the 10mm glock, it seems too much.

I do not own any shotguns yet! I am thinking about starting off with a Maverick 88 because it is cheap and reliable 12 ga and from what i have heard is just like the Mossberg 500.
