Saw a guy on youtube batoning with Bear's new knife by Gerber, completely ate up the serrated edge on one piece of wood. But the guy did like the handle. He was actually trying to have the pommel come apart under real conditions, I guess that was an issue. The pommel stayed but the edge went.

A file knife, I would guess, is a knife made from a file. They heat or anneal the steel to soften it, work it into shape, then temper it to the desired hardness, so it will hold an edge and not be as brittle as a file would be.

Bear was caught sleeping in hotels while sopposedly "roughing it" it his show, he is awell acomplished vet, but a complete sellout. There are some great big knives out there for that price, I highly recomed the large Ka-Bars that are made in tawain. Here is mine.

Yeah a number of the Gerber Knives sold under the Bear Grylls name are just terrible, especially the smaller models. I have the largest folding knife that I have been carrying daily and think it's very nice, bit slow on deployment if one would have to defend their lives with it, but I use it more for untility. I'd only pull a knife if I knew my life was in danger and if that's the case, I would undoubtably pull my firearm instead.
