I carry a Kershaw Tanto Blue(USA made)..I am not a big knife collector but if I wanted gerber or something like the Bear G model,I would look at the gerber LMF II infantry...

Besides the orange and "BG" on it I thought it looked good for testing but I broke it on a 2-3'' branch. I'm sticking with the Gerber LMF ii Infantry.

^^^This.
Bear Grylls has the worst advice I've ever heard and is nothing more than a freak who enjoys the taste of his own urine. Ever since the pilot episode, during which he gave such gems of advice like the fastest way down a cliff to a river is to jump (during which he has a life jacket on under his shirt), running from a bear in the dark is the most effective defense, and I think he even said the old lie of moss only grows on the north side of trees. As a guy who's family owned an outdoor store and had to convince people his advice will get you killed, anything he endorses is an instant scam in my mind.

Put Bear and Les Stroud in the jungle and see which one makes it out, I'll put my money on Les. That said, I think I'll stick with with my Gerber Gator I've carried for the last 20 years.

I still carry my issue Kbar when hunting. I have some cheap folder, made in China, that is awesome and holds a good edge for the last 20 years. I use it daily.

Although I'd also say that IF Bear makes it out, he'd be miles ahead of Les. That guy moves like he is ADD, or on something stronger than coffee.
What bothers me is that his show is sort of a "what to do in the worst case" sort of thing. not really survival at all...but they never make clear that you could, and should, avoid those situations in the first place.
Amishhacker is right, the man is dangerous; I have had many discussions with Boy Scouts about how ridiculous Bear's advice is.

Question...is there any steel actually made in the USA anymore, or are the American knife makers forced into using Chinese steel?
While I have a few Chinese knives that would have a hard time cutting butter on a warm day, including a Schrade and some no-name stuff; the newer Chinese stuff is far better made. Still not first class, but fully functional.
The Schrade is sort of cool, as I have two of the same model, a nice one made in Ireland before they went under and got sold, and the other made in China right after they reformed. The Chinese one SUCKS! Bad machining, fit and finish.
