If the looks aren't a big deal to you, go with the t53.
You can sand and refinish the T53 stock, they turn out very nice.

I have both a M44 and a SKS. If I had to grab just one, I'd go for the SKS. The M44s are carbine length and are just bears to shoot. Loudest gun I've ever shot and kicks like a mule.

My first choice would be a good .22. I have a Marlin 60, a model 25 bolt, and Ruger 10/22. They are all good... I'd probably take the 10/22 over the 60.

I only have the Marlin 60, but totally agree on your choice of grabbing a .22. I would also grab my Ruger SR22PB.

For rabbit and squirrel hunting I agree, for protection.... I'd take a Mosin M44, M38 or M91/59. Of course any Mosin would do, but a carbine length is easier to maneuver with.

don't know if the link will work but i vote for a good .22 and this vid shows why, plus ammo for them is light, plentiful, and dirt cheap.

The cz-82 is a great choice and ammo is about the same cost as 9mm luger ( 9x19). But in SHTF scenario ammo will be hard to come by as it is not a common caliber.

The Tok is a nice hot round but expensive and very uncommon so even harder to come by ammo.

Compare those wound channels to a 7.62*54R, or even a 5.56 NATO.

The problem is the lethality is not sudden, it could take several hours for you target to become incapacitated. The 22LR is not a combat round for that very reason, and it also does not feed as reliably as centerfire rounds in most weapons.

But I would absolutely say a good .22 is a very desireable addition to any survival package, just not for defense.

I might be getting a lever action .30-30 tomorrow. That should be a good defensive/hunting long gun shouldn't it?
