Spam
Is it just me or has the number of Spam posts dramatically increased over the last few weeks?
It seems like everyday I am reporting at least one or two. I don't mind reporting them and I understand that they are part of every forum. Just seems like a major spike.
I'm not suggesting that anyone is at fault or not doing their job, I think all the mods etc are great.
Just wondering if anyone else noticed or if I am just running into them all by dumb luck .. lol

I've noticed it also. (Including what appears to be several identical spam posts in this area just below your message!)
The moderators seem to be taking care of things as quickly as possible, but they cannot stay connected 24/7 so some are going to slip through for a little while.

Spam is something that has zero relavance to the subject matter at hand, usually in the form of a mass message (such as e-mail, instant messaging, or, in our case, mass posts in a forum).

As for getting rid of them permanently, I auto-ban a spambot, the problem is that I don't think it's a IP ban, it's a username ban, as many spambots share the same IP address.

I do have the spam filter in place, it's just not catching them like it's supposed to.
I will be manually adding them to the IP log.

Flyboy, Austin,
You have my condolences. I moderate another forum and I see spikes in spam all the time. Fortunately, they set it up so that I can ban the IP, too. The down side is that it is all done manually. And when you wake up at 3:00 AM, stagger to the computer and try to make your eyes focus on the posts, it gets hilarious. And frustrating. Why don't these people have the decency to post their spam after I've had my second cup of coffee (about 5:00 AM)?
