Default $135 per 100!

OK, I've dug out another set of antique sporting magazines. This time, I'm browsing the Jan. 1917 editions of "Arms and the Man" - an NRA magazine. I stumbled across an article on reloading in the Jan 18, 1917 edition which states that a box of 100-count new rifle cartridges is $6, which puts off all but the well off from shooting a lot. However, reloading your cartridges can reduce the price to a much more attractive $2.10 - $2.50 per 100.

Hmm... $6 per 100 sounds pretty good to me but what does the good ol' Inflation Calculator say? Well... turns out that $6 in 1917 is roughly the equivalent to $135 in 2017. OUCH!

And what of that much more attractive $2.10? Well, how does $35 per 100 sound to you?

Egads! We are indeed living in a golden age.

Peace favor your sword,
Kirk

$1.35/bullet is not that much more than I paid for match grade 75 gr Hornady .223 ammo last year; although to be fair, is has dropped since then. And many cartridges are more. 338 Lapua, for example, runs anywhere from $2.50 to $6.00 per round.

Quiet man! You're ruining the "shock value."

Peace favor your sword,
Kirk
