I've been lurking here for a week or two while I researched Hi Point firearms. I've finally decided to come out into the open and actually register on the forum, so this is the obligatory "hiya" post.
I haven't purchased my HP yet; I keep waffling between the C9 and the JCP and worrying that my wife might turn the new gun on me for spending the money. I shudder to think what might happen to me if I purchased a snobby gun like the guy at our local range wants to sell me. I lean toward the C9 for the cost and availability of ammo, and toward the JCP because it would pack more punch and feels better in my hand. Decisions, decisions...
I'm a writer, and strongly considered the user name "WriterInWa" but I really didn't want to copy Writerinmo, even though it might be humorous. I'm wanting to get into shooting both for home defense and for recreation. My wife and I have been getting more concerned over the possibility of economic collapse, or other disaster, and have been talking about ways to prepare. That is the biggest reason for the home defense side of my interest. The recreational side of my interest has been spurred on by a desire to discover the reality of using firearms rather than believing what I read or see in movies too much.
I have fired rifles in the past (many, many moons ago) but have never fired a handgun. My dad just gave me his (very old) Mauser 1934, which I'm hoping to take out to the range this weekend once I have my hearing protection and find some ammo for it. I'll probably find a way to get my hands on the C9 (or maybe the JCP) sometime in the next couple weeks.
Anyway... Hi! And thanks to everyone that participates here, I've already learned quite a bit and look forward to learning even more.
