Default scope mount for 91/30

anyone put a scope on their mosin? I found a kit for $70 that comes with a 7x32 scope, rings and a mount that looks like it replaces the rear iron sight. I may order one unless anyone has used it and it's junk.

I found a kit on Amazon.com like yours only difference the scope is 2-7 power. It cost $49.00. I have not had a chance to put it on yet.

I'm going to get it once I get my tax money, I just ordered a bunch of stripper clips for it today. now if I could only find a bipod that I didn't have to butcher the stock to install.

you could get a repro PU scope for period detail and authenticity

...but those are expensive.

I've heard a lot of bad things about the no-tap scope mounts. Never hold zero reliably, or so I've read.

It's price gouging. Sad really. There's a market for them, and not too much competition. It shouldn't cost that much to make. I don't understand why they cost so much either...

So I'm thinking of calling up AIM and specifically asking them for a mismatched 91\30 so the I can re-mount it. Found a site http://www.mosinpros.com/ that seems to have everything for the sporterizer. Never dealt with them but sure looks like a good place to start for compatibility questions at the very least.

I'm new to scopes so what are the dimensions: What is 4x32? I'm guessing 4x magnification but what is the 32?

Is 4x enough at say 100-300 yards?

William's Gunsite makes a 'side mount' (part number SM-70) that installs with three screws (as opposed to the originals that use two screws and two pins). They are available from Williams, Brownell's & Midway for about $50.00. I have one on back-order right now.

You will have to buy a special set of ring from Williams too:

Expect to end up paying around $90 for both. When my mount arrives, I will document the proceedure for installing it (Williams charges $90 to mount it, but unless you live in MI. that may not be an option...)

In the mean time, I wonder if you all can do me a favor: My mosin appear to have two pin holes, and two screw holes in the side of the receiver that have been 'filled' (you may not be able to make out the pin holes in this pic):

I want to belive that I have a factory re-worked sniper model, but I have seen this on other 91/30's so I am not sure - do your's have these features?
