Amen brother, these are the rounds i use for a SD, not permit to carry yet, but I have it in my nightstand the C9, but, i've shot the Golden Sabre 147 grain HPJ thru a common household door from trailers too wooden solid doors, i know on a solid door everyone would agree useless, but if someones on the other side of a flimsy common fiberboard door, the bullet shattering shrapnel will mame them and the follow up shots will hit targets. But I also agree, its a rather expensive bullet too practice with on a common basis.

I'm starting to think about going every other JHP, FMJ in my XD9sc. My new keltec actualy feeds better on the umc jhp than the fmj's anyway.

I've hear of many people doing this with home defense shotguns, bird shot, buck shot, slugs etc

I didn't read all the responses so forgive me if this is redundant.
Most defensive rounds are not designed to penetrate a wall or other types of cover that an attacker might hide behind in your home. They are designed to penetrate some clothing and soft tissue, only.
I load my XDm 9 alternately with Winchester PDX-1 and Federal 124 gr. FMJ for, if in a bad event I had to shoot through cover. Like a bad guy mounting his attack from behind a sheet rock/stud wall or a door/door jamb in my home.
Glad for the 19+1 capacity in the XDm.

My friend I fully recommend Hornady Critical Defense or Winchester Ranger SXT (blacktalon). They open up like a sawblade. And the Hornady Is my 9mm carry round. I carry the C9. Look up some ballistics videos on them. Its a pretty impressive round.

I used Hornady Z-MAX (zombie ammo) when I shot a guy charging at me with a knife. It did its job and costs a little less then its older brother Critical Defense.

I do this so I can actually shoot my carry rounds from time to time without missing the target from crying about cost.
One day I will move up to the big leagues but not there yet.

Same here, I ran 200 rounds through my EDC Ruger P95 with no problems. I do have a second mag loaded with Winchester PDX1 bonded as well, both have functioned well in all 9mm's that I have owned.
