Makarov for cc?
My dad is interested in getting his cc but doesn't have extra money for a new pistol made specifically for cc. He was hoping to use his 9x18 Makarov. Anyone else here use a Makarov? I know when I shot dad's I couldn't get ANY accuracy from it, but thats not saying much since I'm not a pistol shooter. Any opinions or tips for using the Makarov would be appreciated.

Is it a Makarov or is it just a pistol that uses the 9x18 Makarov round? Don't confuse the two.
What brand/model is the firearm?
The Makarov is a good firearm and the 9x18 Mak round is available in a JHP. The Mak JHP is a good SD round.
I would see no issue with carrying a Makarov as CC and sometimes carry either a CZ82, a Russian Military Makarov or my Bulgarian Makarov with me.

Can your Dad get accuracy out of it? That's what matters! And accuracy is not necessarily a deal breaker, most encounters happen at arms length or closer. If he can keep them all on a paper plate at 20 feet, he is "good enough" for probably 90% of the situations where he would actually fire. 99.99% of the time just pulling the gun out makes the badguy(s) do a quick pants soiling and 100 yard dash!

It is a Russia export Makarov pistol in the 9x18 caliber. I do not know if he has any accuracy problems with it but I'm sure he could shoot a box or two through it to find out.

It is fine for CC. I have CCed one, myself. Most of them are pretty accurate as production hand guns go.

I have a Russian Baikal IJ-70 that shoots the Mak round and I've carried it a fair amount. Solid and reliable gun, very capable round and available in hollow point. Hornady makes a good SD round and Silver Bear HPs are very inexpensive. Since it's not something I carry a lot I don't have a premium holster for it. I just use a simple Blackhawk IWB (size 07) that cost me $15. Works fine.

I pocket carried mostly but I've also used a IWB. I don't think I could happily pocket carry it any longer. I'm spoiled.
Peace favor your sword,

I have a Bulgarian Makarov I carry everyday. I mainly use an IWB holster. I'ts an awesome CC gun. It isn't heavy and is easy to conceal. I've put over 1000 rounds through mine and haven't had a single problem with it.

PA63 same ammo tad lighter than a mak,but a mak is a decent cc weapon its better than 9x17 or 380.I carry mine IWB in a ebay 380 holster. If you had to compare it to a popular cc gun it would be the bersa 380,which is but a later copy of the walther pp.
Holster cost about 6 bucks delivered.

In short no need for a specialized gun he already has a decent cc firearm.
