Default For My Military Folks

I know all about the laws when it comes to carrying on bases (i.e. DON'T), but what about this: I live in "base housing." I put that in quotation marks because all the housing is technically outside the base and shared jurisdiction between Air Force Security Forces and the local police. The housing is all privatized, but still technically on federal land. I move about a hundred yards, I'm back on city property. No fences, no nothing, really. I walk and bike to where I need to go, I do not drive.
Does this mean I cannot carry at all? This is Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, by the way, so those of you who live near here probably know specifically where I am talking about.
I have already contacted Security Forces and the leasing company, they have yet to respond to my inquiry, so while I know what they say will be the advice I should follow, I figured I'd throw you guys the question first and see if you have any experience with it.
Where I generally venture is not the best of neighborhoods, so to speak, so I REALLY don't want to have to be disarmed just because I have to pass through that hundred yards or so that is still technically federal property and am somehow not allowed to carry.

When ever I lived in base housing I could have weapons in my quarters. But who knows what the rules are after Ft. Hood. The army wants their troops to register all their weapons with the PMO regardless of where the troop lives.

Our base has a sign at the gate saying no weapons BUT I don't know if that applies to troops living in family quarters on base.

Our leased housing was open and there was no sign barring weapons. Our leased housing is NOT on federal land.

You, my friend, are situated in a paradox. I wish you luck in getting the powers that be to take a stand one way or the other. I would suspect a run-around or a Catch-22.

Since the local PD and the SFS share jurisdiction you should ask these questions of the local PD.

Reason: If the housing was located on federal land I would suspect that the local PD would not have jurisdiction in the housing area.

Here the jusridiction was shared. The land was private land. The housing was private housing leased to the USAF.
