To Sell Or Not To Sell - Yugo AK & K31
OK, I'm seriously having trouble deciding what to do here - to keep or sell my Century AK-47. It's the Yugo version with the grenade gas shutoff gas block, 1.5mm receiver, and full wood stock. I've also got three magazines and a "tactical" case with six outside pockets, a site adjustment tool, and a bayonet.
Here's the deal. I've been looking around the auction sites and I've noticed that the rifle I paid $450 for back at the beginning of the year is now worth upwards of $800 to $900. This is surprisingly close to the price of an M1 Garand or an SVT-40.
Some would think me a bit crazy for wanting the Garand over my AK, but here's my thinking. I've noticed that I really like the old guns more than the newer guns and that I tend to go with authenticity. The rest of my collection consists of my 1946 M44, 1928 Tula 91/30, K-31, Steyr M95, Grandpa's Marlin Model 60, and my C9. While I really like my AK, I keep finding myself thinking that it should be full auto and yes, I should really save up for a genuine transferable AK in the future. Thinking back, I guess I got it because it was something cool, "evil" in the state I moved here from (People's Republik of Kalifornia), and I could afford it with my tax return.
I've also noticed that it's somewhat of an ammo hog, especially compared to my other guns ^-^ I can't be satisfied with just 40 or 50 rounds downrange in an outing - it has to be more like 120+ rounds, the more the better. Even at $6.00 per 20 rounds, that gets freaking EXPENSIVE :cantlook:
So my thinking is that maybe I should sell the AK and buy either an M1, SVT-40, or a really nice SKS (along with a 995 to go with the SKS with the rest of the money). All three options would better fit my collection, add authenticity (not be a "watered down" version of the original), and would probably help with high ammo consumption 8)
Heck, I'm somewhat (very slightly) considering selling my K31 to help finance the deal. Yes, it is VERY dear to me, but the price of ammo is a bit high, not the easiest to find, and the value of the rifle would bridge the gap between what the AK would get me vs. the outlay required for the other choices. I probably won't sell the K31, but it's not out of the question ^-^
Any help and advice y'all could give me would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!!!

I would not sell it. With the incoming administration and the "what ifs", you will either be able to sell it for much more than that, or more than the price, you and your family may need it for more important reasons...

The garand and svt-40 both have more history, and in my mind are much better investments, and both is probably end up as better shooters.

Re: To Sell Or Not To Sell - Yugo AK & K31
Man...: I see your reasoning, and have to admit, thats a tough tough decision you would have to make. I personally dont like the idea of selling any firearms that I have spent soo much time shopping around for, to simply sell it because someone will give me more for it now. That being said, I still in my heart of hearts DO want a M1 Garand especially (A M1A would do in a pinch, already have some parts) I have noticed that prices for those have not jumped up like the EBR market (Thank lord!) Seeing as going with a original Spec M1, would mean another round to enter in the Ammo bin (one main reason I like AKs/SKSs: Same ammunition) And, seeing as how I have a FAL now (in .308), going with a M1A would be best (No-Not going with a neutered .308 M1)
Back to you: Yeah, again, you have to decide. Yes, your Yugo can get that price nowadays (Say that phrase fast 3 times, lol, hence Irony will ensue: Talking of the cars, not the rifles ) But any AK style/platform, or AR etc is getting nuts, pricewise. Again, I would have to point back at you, and what you want: If you feel that a M1 would best in your stable: then go for it man.

Re: To Sell Or Not To Sell - Yugo AK & K31
Just tonight, I sold my Century ArmsYugo M70 AK w/1-30 round steel* mag and 500 rounds of ammo in 1 ammo can. So, it's gone and I really don't miss it ..that much! With the money I could buy three-30-30s,scope some or all them and then get lots of ammo. Or, I could buy one Browning BAR .308 ( that will outshoot Springfields all day) or some excellent bolt action rifles ,scope them,OR, a lot of 10-22 Rugers and GOBBS of ammo,OR, 1 good M1 Carbine and lots of ammo and mags,Or...... see my point.
Sell it,take your money and honest profit and rebuild your "arsenal." Oh, I forgot, handguns...with the money, I could buy quite a few good revolvers or semi auto pistols and plenty of ammo. Happy shopping.Go for it

Never sell your firearms! We are to far along for that. What is about to come the pipe does not look to good. That yugo is a fine weapon going to be hard to replace. I know so many folks who saw the big money they could get for their weapons and sold them now they want to replace them and they are even worth even more now. Dont do it!

Re: To Sell Or Not To Sell - Yugo AK & K31
at first reading of your post I was heavily leaning towards telling you to wait til the supposed gun ban is announced and then sell it for twice what they are going for now, but after thinking about my 3 AK's and my current plans for them, I now would advise towards keeping it. I have a little over $600 in my 3 WASR-10 AK's and could turn a hefty profit in no time if I chose to, but the last gun that I sold that I cared about was my heavily modded Yugo SKS and I have regretted that everyday ever since it left. Sure I still have a gorgeous Russian SKS and an original Yugo M59/66 but the money I made on that sale is now gone(I did buy 5 more WW2 era rifles with the money), and I still miss the gun badly. Chances are that in the near future we may not have the ability to purchase anymore of those types of guns and the money you earn from selling it now most certainly will not be around when that happens. Besides, I love our ((5 as much as anybody and will sing it's praises to anyone that will listen, but in no way can it ever replace an AK in my heart or arsenal. Just my elongated 2 cents.

Re: To Sell Or Not To Sell - Yugo AK & K31
I would advise you to keep that rifle as well, and I'll tell you why. It's similar to the reason why I'm stocking up on high-cap rifles and magazines myself. These are the rifles that--if ever--are going to be targeted first to be put on the chopping block. IF (big if) something politically negative ever happened, the hunting rifles and antique firearms will be last to go.
SO, I've bought my AK, Ruger Mini-14, Mossberg Tactical Persuader and soon my GSG-5 right now. I have hunting rifles and other ones as well, but I'm snagging these high-cap ones sooner rather than later--it's my priority.
