Here's how to use a wooden dowel and NOT pay more later...and this is a tried and true, well known method amongst milsurp guys, who often shoot old ammo that might have a squib in the pile...
Cut the dowel into shorter pieces, like 4- 6 inches each, good square cuts. That way, they don't bend and crack. Stack 'em into the barrel, and then start tapping Easy peasy!
