H&R single shot rifles
Hi there to all,
I am new to this forum so please bare with me!
I recently bought an H&R Buffalo Classic in 45/70 and absolutly love this gun. I am more excited with this one than my last rifle, a Stainless Left Handed Tikka T3 lite in 270WSM, which i still have yet to shoot.
I brought the 45/70 home and was shooting it minutes after getting out of the truck and every day since, weather permitting.
I have a feeling that these rifles are going to get addicting, i am looking at a Sportster in 17HMR, i can find no bad reviews anywhere on this gun, so my mind is made up. Its on order now.
I am also looking at an Ultra Hunter with the laminated stock in 25/06 with the 26" barrell, i want all i can get out of this round and i think the longer barrell is the way to go. The other is the Ultra Varmit Hunter with the skeletonized adjustable stock in 223 with the 24" fluted barrell. After looking all over the internet, i can't find much info on either of the last two rifles mentioned. I know about the triggers, as heavy as the guns are, but have found a great gunsmith that will work his magic on them for $80.00, not to bad considering what it takes to rework one of these triggers. I called H&R monday, and was told THEY WILL NOT rework the triggers under no circumstance.........
Any information on the above mentioned rifles will be greatly appreciated, accuracy, problems, ect...I know the twist of rate on the 223 is 1 in 9 but not sure on the 25/06.
anyway thanks to all for any help, advise

Re: H&R single shot rifles
something to think about, you can send the receiver and stock in and get accessory barrels, I have the 500 S&W and plan on buying at least 4 more barrels first of the year,

Re: H&R single shot rifles
Just remember the 17 HMR barrel will most likely show some preference for one bullet weight. My Savage 93R17 BTVS likes 20gr Game points and my Marlin 917 like 17gr Vmax loads. I have had good luck with Winchester and Federal Ammo. You will probably find that that a scope with at least a 12X mag will be needed to wring out the best in your rifle. I use a 4.5-14A/O on my Savage and a 6-18A/O on my Marlin. I don't know anyone that gets good results with CCI 20gr solids.

Re: H&R single shot rifles
remember guys teh buffalo classic IS NOT the same as a stadard NEF/H&R rifle.
it shares the same design but is slightly different, and AFAIK is not included in teh barrel accessory program.

Re: H&R single shot rifles
You are correct sir, the Buffalo classic has the checkered walnut stock, peep sights, 32" barrell. I looked at an NEF and it was close other than the stock from what i could tell, however it was in the rack 8 feet across from me and all i could see was the trigger guard, and back side of the barrell, stock ect....so i am not sure what it has for sights. The williams rear peep sight and lyman front work okay, but i have ordered the other williams rear peep, i can't get the stock one adjusted up enough at 100Yards, with it all the way up as it sits now i am just about 4" low at 100 yards, i havn't tried to shoot any further out than that so far. Does anybody make a ladder type rear sight for this rifle???
I tell you i love this rifle, don't know what it is about it, i have several other rifles, shotguns, muzzleloaders, but there is something about this one that just makes me happy, and its fun to shoot. I can't wait to get it back after the trigger is done.
