Re: H&R single shot rifles
I also heard that you could get the buffalo Classic re-barrelled in the 38/55??? But can't find that option on H&R's website.

Re: H&R single shot rifles
Should you find out the 38/55 option is available, please post it on the site. I'd love to have a single shot 38/55 at a reasonable price. I was thinking about a Browning copy of the Winchester High wall, but I didn't want to spend $1200 for the rifle at this time.

Re: H&R single shot rifles
I know i couldn't find it on the web site barrell program, but thanks for the information, it saves me a call monday morning.
I know you had said you have several of the Handi's, what do you know about the Ultra Hunter and Ultra Varmit hunter....I can't find much information anywhere. Gray Beards forum search engine shows nothing on either.
The Sportster has quite a few very good reviews and i ordered one of those, I want to get one of the Ultra's in the 25/06 with the 26" barrell, and will have a few different barrells for it by the time its over if it shoots well, and the Ultra Varmit with the skeletonized, adjustable stock with the 24" fluted bull barrell in 223, as i have quite a bit of that ammo, and am set up to reload it as well, i think that will be the only caliber i get in that model. At least thats the train of thought for now.....wish they had a barrell for the 6MM PPC
I think the 25/06 with a 26" barrell should squeeze everything i can get out of that round, and it would be nice to feel confident in shooting at an antilope out to 350 yards. Key word confident, i know the round is very capable of that, just hope the gun is.
once again thanks for the information, i do appreciate it

the ultra models are the same recivers as standard, they just have upgraded stocks and other stuff. it IS more accurate than thier standard line rifles though. worth teh extra money for a precision varmint rifle.
if you want a 6mm PPC youd have to buy a barrel blank and have a smith build it up. H&R doesnt do any custom work. brownells has blanks that would work.

Re: H&R single shot rifles
I just bought an H&R Ultra Hunter, in .223. Took it to the range today and was amazed at how well this little puppy shoots. It is simple, well built, accuracy meets my expectations and they are affordable. I too am looking at gettin other calibers. Just need to buy additional barrels. How easy is that?

Re: H&R single shot rifles
I never owned a H&R/NEF rifle but, I did have their single
shot 12 gauge.
That gun was in-destructible and highly recommended.

Sorry, its been a while since i have visited but thought i would post an update on the 45/70 after i got it back from the gunsmith.
First off, the man i had rework the trigger is amazing, Shane Thompson from Soda Springs Idaho did an incredible job, my gun now has a trigger that breaks at 2lbs, nice crisp, no overtravel or creep, and my groups shrank by half. I did upgrade to a different rear sight from Williams, more adjustment than the stock sight that was on the gun. Very nice piece now.
I also got my hands on a H&R Sportster in 17HMR last spring after a 10-22 i built up gave me fits with not extracting spent rounds, and it is one sweet shooter, it will be going to Shane soon for the trigger work to be done on it as well, i mounted a Simmons White Tail classic 6.5x20x50 scope on it and the ground squirrels didn't stand a chance around here. For the price, i can't believe how good this gun shoots, even with the stock trigger and correct ammo i can shoot sub moa at 100 yards unless there is any wind, thats the only problem with this caliber, the bullets are so light any wind drastically moves the point of impact, i also found you have to be careful on the rest where you place the gun, for some strange reason positioning on the sand bags changed point of impact as well, i think the forearm of the stock puts a slight pressure on the barrel but can't say for sure, i plan on haveing my gunsmith take a look at that as well.
Other than that i am extremely pleased with this little gun and scope combo, i think it would be had to find anything for what i have in both pieces that would shoot as well as this does.
Happy new years to all out there and happy shooting.
