Default Effective distance?

First off, I'd like to say hello to the world of HPFF. Quick back story, I was wandering around Cabela's before Christmas, and low and behold, on the counter sits this totally BA looking pistol grip rifle looking thing. Sooooo, I wander over, look at it, see its $170 bucks, and quickly shoot my new wife a text, "hey, wanna get me a gun for Christmas?" Expecting something along the line of, are you out of your effin mind?! She says sure, if that's what you want. Been enjoying the 995 ever since.

Anywho, back on subject, I put a 4x scope on it, and it needs to be sighted in bad yet. But I was forced to shoot at 100yrd and seemed to be all over the dang place. More than a lack of scope alignment. Does the 9mm have any real accuracy beyond 50 or even 25 yards, or am I just making an excuse for being a horible shot? :cantlook: TIA! The 995 is my first gun, but not the first time handling a firearm.

Not to offend but at 75 yards my aim is right on. I personally have not been out to the 100 yrd range but hope to soon

What ammo are you using? At that distance, ammo makes a big difference. Though with iron sights from the shoulder at 50 yards with Blazer I can keep a pretty good group. There's guys on here that have gotten 3" groups or so at 100 yards with their 995s.

I personally rock out with WWB, Federal champion, or Remington UMC. I usually get 2" groups or less when I can see what I'm doing.

I haven't ever shot my 995TS for groups, but I'm getting minute-of-pop-can accuracy at 50 yards. If I can make pop cans dance, I'm happy.

This is a subject that has been discussed an awful lot. Most shooters are probably not capable of accuracy beyond 100 yards, but I distinctly remember reading a post by one of our members who claims that he can break clays with his 995 at 200 yards with iron sights. In capable hands (not mine) I have to think that my 995 could do the same.

I got the gun because it's an inexspensive plinker that is reliable and incredibly fun to shoot.

I have a red dot on my 995, with good ammo I can usually get 2" to 3" groups at 100 yds. Even with not so good ammo I can get minute of paper plate groups at 100 yds. I usually shoot closer than that though, at cans like p-t-max. But at 25 -50 yds. , you can keep a can jumping.

Both my 995 with a Reflex sight and my 995TS and Red Dot are deadly accurate at 50 yds. I have not gone beyond that distance, as I don't see the need. I have had Blazer, Wolf, PMC, and Remington ammo thru both without any difference in accuracy. I usually shoot at 8" dia. targets and all shots are in the circle. That's close enough for a sure kill.........on the target that is

Thanks for all the insight. Sounds like I just really need to sight the scope. I take no offence in pointing out my lack of accuracy. I'm just getting into regular shooting. So I knowingly have accuracy issues to take care of. Gotta work on the scope. Sounds like I gotta do some more shooting. Oh darn

btw thanks for not flaming the newb
