Hi Point C9 9MM ILLEGAL?
Hi all I'm new to the forum but i had a question I hoped you all could answer for me. I recently bought a Hi Point C9 9MM off of gunbroker.com and had it transfered to a FFL in Maryland. When the gun arrives he tells me that the gun is not legal in the state of maryland. i checked the maryland state list of regulated firearms and it lists two types of hi point 9mm as legal.
http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=149867419 thats the link to auction where i bought the gun
http://mpdc.dc.gov/mpdc/frames.asp?doc=/mpdc/lib/mpdc/info/pdf/firearms_md_roster.pdf
this is the link to the list of regulated(legal) handguns for maryland
Can any forum members from maryland or anyone with knowledge on this issue please help me out!

Re: Hi Point C9 9MM ILLEGAL?
If you look at the list of "legal firearms" you will notice that the C-9 (COMPACT9MM) is not listed. It is possible they have a size determination on legal guns. Compact versus full size weapons. If they do have other compact firearms that are listed maybe you can request why this one is not and ask to have it added?
I dont know what you can do but here are a few suggestions. Contact the seller and ask if he will send you something comparable or a credit for future purchase. Much more likely because it wont affect his sale. Have him resell it for you. The obvious loss to you is freight which nobody gets back.
HOPE YOU CAN GET THIS RESOLVED

Re: Hi Point C9 9MM ILLEGAL?
I would go to another FFL dealer in the area, HP makes two 9mm pistols and it lists two 9mm pistols, I really dont see where the guy thinks the C9 would NOT be one of the two listed. It is just possible that the guy doesnt know what he is talking about, its not like holding an FFL makes you a genius.

Re: Hi Point C9 9MM ILLEGAL?
Have you tried contacting the DoSP and asking for a clarification? Sometimes the information gets "blurred" when being put down on paper. It's not as if there aren't 30,000 different handgun designs floating around. Tough to be individualistic about every one of them without writing a frigg'n book.
Peace favor your sword,

Re: Hi Point C9 9MM ILLEGAL?
Yea I may just have to go to another dealer. This guy told me the only Hi Point handgun that is legal in Maryland is the .380 ACP which is the exact same build as the C9 9MM. I also remember that prior to going to gunbroker I checked out a gunshow in Baltimore Maryland where several sellers had the C9 for sale but I opted to go to gunbroker because these dealers were charging $249 + tax and fee. I do not know how I'm going to explain to this guy that he might be an idiot but...

The FFL is in business to do, well, transfers. Since the firearm is in his legal possession at the moment why not have him check further into the matter. He can call another FFL or some agency in the State of Maryland that would clear things up. What about the Maryland State Police? They should know I would think.

I bet a nickle that he would refuse to do so. Most people hate to be proven wrong.

Re: Hi Point C9 9MM ILLEGAL?
Was this FFL aware of what was being sent to him? If so then he screwed up. The list clearly shows the 4 size caliber handguns HP makes. Did HP at one time call the C9 something else? Maybe that could help clarify this matter so he would accept it.
I would contact another FFL.
Good luck.

Re: Hi Point C9 9MM ILLEGAL?
Nah, just get an attorney and file theft charges against the FFL... that is basically what is going on, he has your property and refuses to give it to you! Of course, you might not ever be able to go into the store again afterwards...

Re: Hi Point C9 9MM ILLEGAL?
Contact a lawyer i agee.Something don't smell right cause I think even HP would have let it be known about certain states.Sounds to me like this guy is going to take that pistol and make free money.Make a stink maybe he will get his ffl pulled.Serves him right.
