Default Hi-Point .45 Tactical Pistol

I just bought a FN .45 Tactical in black.

my next move is to take some of the features of the FN and adapt them to a Hi-Point. First will be milling the slide to accept an econo red dot.
I found this on Amazon for $30.

Next will be a threaded barrel adapter for my .45 suppressor. For this i will open up the slide opening at the barrel end a bit and thread the barrel for an adapter.

Lastly will be raised sights to use the suppressor and co-witness the red dot.

Should be fun. I hope to pick up the .45 tomorrow and begin the process. the first step will be the red dot since milling will be the easy part.

Will post picts of the progress.

Keep us posted. If this works, I may pick up another JHP just for converting. ;D

had to go with a Burris Fastfire. the other one is wayyyy too high.

but it's an easy mod with a mill.

i don't know how to take a good picture of the red dot co-witnessing the reg. sites, so here's my best shot...and hairy knees.

don't know when i'll get to the other mods. this was only a half hour job.

That's a fair amount of meat (i.e. mass) gone from the slide. How's functioning?

I'd be leery about milling so deep, so close to the ejection port. Have the lower corners been relieved?

Also, what the deuce is holding the rear sight in place? ;^.^

it's drilled and tapped with (2) 6-32 screws.

the cartridge is a fair amount lower the ejection port so there is enough material between the top and the chamber. also, the actual breechface of the gun is a steel insert which is cast into the slide at the lower region, so that was not touched. it is not much deeper than the factory relief for the sights. I haven't shot it yet, but some of the mass was replaced with the mass of the sight. overall difference is neglegable, functioning shouldn't be a problem. i'll know monday. i'll probably shoot it w/o the sight since it's off now.

the top is kinda ugly since i haven't repainted it yet. just shiny metal.

another option i was thinking about would be to put a raised aluminum rail so that the sights could be co-witnessed through the slot and the big optic could be used. problem with that is there would be a significant increase in mass and would make the overall weight of the gun even more.
